Final Product (mix) too soft after render

Hi,
I have a presonus firestudio which i direct to my macbook pro into garageband

in garageband, everything is EXTREMELY LOUD and i barely have my volume up when mixing ...its not clipping or anything like that its just extremely loud.

therefore, i feel like after i "send song to itunes" using the share tab which is how you render your mix when your done...and everything is soft...not extremely soft but much softer than any other albums i have playing on my itunes.

help?

However, i am still left with this problem. Now i know its up to the mastering stage and "limiters". My recording sounds Incredible in garageband! and its SUPER loud in garageband.

But when i render it its very soft compared to those "commercial cd's" ... i have no clue what program or what to use. remember i'm in garageband.
and please dont say that this is impossible to do in garageband because Thrice mixed and recorded their entire album "Fire and Water" with it!!!!

And then they sent it out to a mastering facility. To Howie Weinberg, no less.

Volume isn't the "important" part of the mastering phase, but it's generally when it happens.

Unless you worked on the new Metallica... :eek:
