few months ago i had to sell my HOTROD DELUXE (needed the cash), but now i am back in business and looking for a new fender tube amp ...and was looking at these 2 amps.

far as i can tell from looking at the specs.---these 2 amps have the same components.
so what is the difference?

I have the Blues deluxe, original 90's version.

I think the hot rod is designed to be more gain-heavy, the blues deluxe doesn;t break up quite as quickly.

Note this is pure speculation, i haven't actually played through the hot rod.

Do a search for 5e3 on Ebay.

5f1 is another good one. There are some really great looking amps being done out there by guys building kits. Most post pics of the chassis so you can see the workmanship. The Frenzel stuff looks interesting too.

Next amp I buy will probably be one of these knockoffs. Likely a Champ/5F1 clone.

I was checking these 2 amps out at guitar center.

The difference is the hot rod amp has the hot rodded drive channel "more drive" and the other doesn't.

The Hot Rod takes advantage of a previously unused half of a 12AX7 tube to get more gain. But personally, I think that gain is almost unusable since (the ones I heard anyway) it sounds harsh and unpleasant. But maybe some people have gotten different results by changing tubes and such.
