Taking the slow road
ok, where do i go to figure out what acronyms go with what hardware and software?

do any of the low cost multitrack programs run any of the low cost hardware interfaces?

etc etc need info.

or is there a universal hardware abstraction-like layer that all hardware fits into so that all software can operate with it? or am i just dreaming?

n-track and reaper, would they work with the Audiophile 2496 PCI Digital Audio Card? stuff like that.

ok, in the meantime, i'm off to google... tia for any info u can add. :o

yes they should work., unless your messing with digidesign, to the best of my knowledge. I can easily run Nuendo, Sonar, Cubase, N-Track, Audicity, mp3 audio mixer, Samplitude, Pro Tools (M Powered), Acid, Vegas Video, Live etc and I use the m-audio 24/96.

Software companies usually want their product to be compatible with damn near all current tech & past tech, future tech or whatever so that they can have more $$ really.. Why loose a RME user because Steinberg software wasn't compatible for example lol.

Most Any Hardware that has an ASIO Driver will run with any software that uses an ASIO driver (Unless it is a Proprietary driver like what protools uses)which is pretty much any audio specific software program so you shouldn"t have any trouble with any of the More common Hardware and software...

Cheers

I strongly endorse Reaper, and there's only one way to find out if it works both with your soudcard and on your machine.

Take advantage of their 30-day no obligation no money down no risk all play no pay free trial period. If you decide that it's for you, give them their $40 shareware fee.

Download it here.

Agreed 100%. Just do it - you won't regret it :)

got Reaper, it looks pretty cool, only have a soundcard so far,

i think i might like the emu 0404? i have a lot of free pci slots and i don't need portability to just play, plus my laptop is 7 years old, so it's only a slow web browser at this point.

(although i was at micro center and saw a kick a55 Acer for only $700, but i can't afford that 5hit right now anyways.)

0404 - any opinions?

They both work fine for me!

well, i have the 0404 sitting here in a box so hopefully i'll have something to say about it soon...

it came with a bunch of LE editions of software to try, that's nice.

first Cubase then i downloaded and tried Reaper and then N-track. N-track worked easier/faster for using FX on playback without reading anything yet.
