Hi!! I recently helped some good freinds produce an EP. Kinda turned to a nightmare. I was to record and mix, and we would have it mastered. We used the same person I have used for my own band, but with very different results.

First, he dogged the first mixes I did and sent me back to remix(pretty common, I understand that). After the remix, the mastering engineer did his thing, and gave us back a cd. It sounded bad. There was a loud buzzing that was not in my original mix, no matter how much I cranked it. Anyway, after throwing away 200 bucks with no recourse(he wouldn't go back over any of it), I had to try my best to do poor man's mastering.

Anyway check it out- I know mp3's aren't the best medium for critique.

thanks!!!

It'd be interesting to hear the M.E.'s versions. Man, I really like the band a lot. The recordings seem to be suffering mostly from a kind of "room" sound, most noticeable during quieter passages. Bass is low in the 2nd one. I can hear it, actually...more of a sonic hole down low that's not quite thumping me in the chest like this should. Anyway, the 1st and 3rd clip seem to be a bit more balanced...the drums are kinda' phasing, but that could be the mp3.

I dunno'...it's hard to comment without hearing what the M.E.'s versions sounded like, but if I were the band, I wouldn't be embarrassed by these mixes or anything.

I do like that alt-country/rock vibe a lot.

These are bad mp3s and I doubt the material was worth mastering.

Sorry...sounds...uh, not-so-good...bad.

Ok, what the hell? I am getting a super slowed down version or something. It seriously sounds like a record with a hand dragging it....am I alone?

Ok, I went to play all hifi. Much better.

6 songs by an unknown for $10 bucks?! Are you selling any?

The drums are not very big or shapley in any of the tracks I have heard so far and the mix overall sounds a bit mushy. Things don't stand out which could be a good thing I guess. Some of the drumming aint dead on.

Better than many.

Jake, lol...you dickhead. He did this for some buddies. I don't think he's spamming or anything.

AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, I LOVE THIS SHIT

:D

HUH?

I was honestly curious. If they're selling I want in on that action.

Cool Tunes! Nice job! Sounds good to me but I don't have the ears of
some around here. Although the above was correct in saying, drums not
dead on in some spots.

thanks!!

hey, thanks guys for the replys. No offense taken in regards to the recording- I know and accept that I'm still an amateur. I used to play lead guitar and helped write some other tunes with the lead singer but I had too many other things going on. Besides, Chris (the new guitarist) rocks. This was one of those deals that started as a "quick and dirty" demo that of course escalated into something over my head.

But I guess those kinds of challenges are what force you to learn more and improve. :D
