Feedback on New Mix?

I really like the wideness and fullness of the guitars.

I think maybe a little automation could help. Step the guitars down a little more (1-2 DBs) when the vocals are going on.

Love the key sounds and how they blend. Excellent touch there.

The ending - I can hear you sliding the guitar off your lap and stopping the recording. Maybe do an edit there?
 
Hey Luke, yeah I think that's due to the OH mics. They're picking up the snare so it's a little delay. I like it and think it's realistic, but i dunno. I'll try it without when I remix the suggestions tonight.

Thanks Burgundy. The general opinion by most seems to be to take the guitars down a notch. I'll do that. The snare is a little loud. I just tinkered with it and was able to drop it 4db and still hear it fine, so it's too loud. The thing is, when I drop it, the tune loses some drive and pulse. I'll have to figure it out. Thanks, though.
 
Overall I think they sound pretty decent with each other. It gives it a nice "stereo" effect rather than just one guitar track. You could experiment with an electric guitar part instead and see which you like better.
 
I loved the song!

To me, this is obviously an acoustic guitar song...so I wouldnt worry about the two acoustics in stereo.

The bass could come up a little bit, maybe you could just add some low end, like 2 or 3db on 60hz and you wouldnt even need to raise the volume and you would actually get a meatier bass sound. It sounds really like a Mccartney style bass! Really awesome bass playing there.
 
Re: that OH picking up a slap-back on the snare you could
1) Slide it back to match the hit time of the close mic
2) Put a lo-pass filter on it, so it's less audible, but still functions has something that gives the snare more girth
 
i dig the acoustic tones,
but as soon as the snare came in, i was distracted by the slapback on it.

it almost makes it sound distorted, that'd be the first thing i'd change.

i like the electric piano tones across the acoustics, that's nice.

the bass track is too light, it needs more weight, and needs to be at least as loud as the acoustic strumming part.

i think the addition of a few harmony parts here and there, would be great.
 
Thanks, Gonzo and Cmolena. That's useful info about the bass. I added some low end weight back into it on a new mix I'm working on and like it. Also working on the drums. I'll hopefully have a new mix up soon with those improvements.
 
nice writing dude. vocal sounds great with this. doubled guitars are working well. this instantly sounded more full than prior tunes. nice lead on the R at 2 mins. i like the crackle idea in the first comment. some lo-fi ambient sounds/broken radio kind of stuff would work well here, i think. i like this song a lot Nola, my new fav from SV.
 
Hey thanks, andru, just got home from a rough day and it was nice to hear your compliment about the vocal. That means a lot since your vocals are always so solid. I'm glad you appreciated the writing too; it was a tough subject. Thanks.
