"coldplay" type of a song/review please

Hey, be easy on me as this is my first thread and i still consider myself a newbie since i've only started learning how to record on my computer a year ago. This is my new song, sorta a coldplay feel at times. Let me know what you think. http://www.soundclick.com/pro/?BandID=266047

Nice brush work. It reminds me of later Porno for Pyros, in a way. I'm slightly bemused by the tendency of the singer to underenunciate.

very very nice. Damn, the clinic is blowing up today, huh?

I'm was slightly bemused as well, but i can't be too picky as anyone has gotta sing better than me. Besides, i like his style. You know, i never got into the later Porno for Pyros, only their earlier stuff. I thought the brushes kinda gave it a nice lounge feel. Thanks for responding.

thanks for your feedback. what kind of speakers are you listening from?

A set of Event 20/20Bas V2 monitors in a well treated control room. I listen to a variety of stuff on them (Enya, Mannheim Steamroller, Led Zeppelin, TOTO, John Williams...) which have varying amounts of bass depending on the artists and the songs and your bass just seemed much more dominant than what I am used to hearing through them.

very good. i also agree that it sounds a bit bass heavy. I'm listening through a pair of dynaudio bm6a's which are a small cone and don't have the best bass response in the first place.

that thingamabob at the beginning sounds AMAZING. it sounds like a synth playing a squarewavish sounding thing(it could easily be a guitar though) with chorus on it playing i think 2 notes held for a long time and repeated and then some sort of swirley/phasey thing going on. I can't stop listening to that sound!

It must be my love of bass creeping in my mix! I'm constantly battling it and i'm also getting used to my alesis mk2 monitors but i think i've been playing some bass heavy stuff live coldplay (parachutes album) lately which is probably not a good ref in this case. I will probably do a remix soon. Thanks!

Bass can surely be one of the hardest things to integrate into mix.

That thingamabob is keyboards with the waves enigma (flangelizer) and 3 layers of e-bow guitar with the waves metaflanger and delay and reverb. I'm glad you appreciated it as you were the first to comment about that. I couldn't get the sound i wanted with the keyboards alone and so i added the ebow guitars to get the mix i wanted.

Mix sounds real nice, apart from the mad clicking i am getting from the .m3u stream.
Sounds good.
But when it goes into the bit without vocals at 1:40 ish, something happens like it looses all its fullness. Could be because of the amount of lo end on the vocals. Not totally sure though.
Nice tune, good singing and good arrangement.

Actually, i did it for effect. The effect i was trying to get was one of turning on the light in a dark room. I kind of backed out of the dark reverb lounge feel to a more "in your face" type feel. Thanks for the comments!!

Sorry for anyone trying to access this song within the last 2 days as Soundclick was down. It's back up now.
