Well, first things first, you *ARE* made for R&B. Because that's the stuff you keep smokin' out, if you want, I can throw a simplistic beat down in FL Studio for you to work with, and go from there and add your spice, but right now it's still R&B. But lemme know, otherwise I can criticize this one and let you know what to do different. For starters, change that clap/snare, tooooo electronic.

And ps. again, make that kick POUND, instead of smooth. :)

Right on bro, FF Rocks. I loved it.

I'll find a website for online games like the oldschool Mario games and shit, I think it's like virtualnes.com or somethin, check it out man

I have emulators of NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, Neo Geo, and MAME. The Neo Geo doesn't work that well, MAME is touchy here and there, but everything else works like a champ.

I just hate having to have all the systems around to play them when I can carry them on disc and play them anywhere.

Fiev.

word i got the emulators too fiev still tryin to beat tyson on the nes version of punch out and i still lose lol... demi i was watchin a vid on youtube and this guy was using reason and protools and wut he did was convert the reason tracks to audio tracks and then brought them into protools hope that helps u out with ur bugs

Emulators are the shit. All the consoles right on my laptop. And yeah Tyson still beats my ass too unless I cheat.

Yeah... i'm still working out all the dynamics of beat making... it's the only thing that makes it sound like r&b. Everything else is... what it is... I can convert these to wav files.. then email them to you when i get home. You should be able to drop them into FF that way. No? Let me know... you should then be able to sync up and add your stuff that way.

Yea, definitely. I could hook you up for sure, do you work with FL at all?

I could easily throw down a basic Hip Hop track for you to feel off of, and work from it, and add your style to it. Sort of like what you did to my previous track that you R'n'B'd up, was tight for sure. But, if I get you a head start on the Hip Hop / Rap track, then maybe you'll get a better feel for it and start using your ears more, for things that sound more hip hop.

What tempo are you using for your tracks, because of course it's going to differ from R'n'B a lot, in most cases anyway. I recommend a 110-115BPM Tempo, and work it off from there.

But like I said, if you work in FL, I can get you a basic track, and send you the zipped up file, and you can work wit it and see what you can do. Otherwise, I don't know enough about Reason, to get you a bangin track goin'. I'm all FL, Simplicity for me.

Otherwise, you're getting the hang of beat production over-all, you just have to diversify yourself by trying different Genre's and setting the scene, so you can decipher a Hip Hop Kick, from a R'n'B kick, or a R'n'B snare, from a Hip Hop snare, and electronica stuff, from rock stuff, etc. It takes a lot of practice for your ears to actually hear what you want them to hear. I know it sure took me a while, and then I realized it's not all about different hits for different genre's because sometimse a certain snare, designed for electronica, will work best in a Hip Hop song, if you fit it right. Work on Tuneing each snare, and each kick, to the way _YOU_ think they should sound, NEVER use the stock sounds, it sounds too .. well.. stock, and you need to make it "yours" and make it sound Studio quality, ya know?

So far, I think you've got the thing down, you just need to clean yer ears out a bit, and listen deeper. Critique other peoples tracks, and you'll find yourself critiqueing your own tracks and making them better, as well.

I know what you mean, after listening to my tracks 90 times over and hearing the same thing over and over, you get lost for what to do. Best thing to do in that situation, is to back away from it for a week, start something fresh, then come back to it, listen to it, and you'll get an idea. I promise.

I hope this helps, and also again, with the FL, I can make a basic track if you're interested.

Let me know.

Keep it real, :)

Hi Re-Lapse,

I really appreciate your help..you are kewl with me. I like that you are upfront and open about what you hear. It's helping me to just hear it from someone else.. telling me what doesn't sound right. I'm in training... and i'm far from being close to being where i want to be. I am determined to get better... and it's people like you that help. Thanks again!!! I don't use FF at all... i will have to figure something thing out... most of my sounds are from the motif, triton, and i use reason for drums... and sample layers. I'm not sure how we can do this other than me sending you wav files from each track...

Anytime, anytime at all. I was in your place at one time, and I LOVED the help I got from here.

If you want to send me the wav files, from each track, Go for it, and I'll see what I can do.

My e-mail is re-lapse@hotmail.com

I'll try and help. :)

EDIT: Also, if you want to get some inspiration, I have a few cool beats available for download, and listen. http://www.last.fm/music/Re-Lapse

Just go there and check 'em out, they are all Hip Hop, and it'll give you some ideas I'm sure. Always does for me, when I listen to stuff I've made.
