I have a Fostex FD8 Digital Multitracker and am wondering the best and most accurate way to get from the unit to CD. I have a burner on my Home PC, but have been unhappy with the quality. This is what I've been doing.

MONO OUT: while recording on my laptop
LAPTOP to burner

The vocals just don't have the clarity they do when I transfer to CD!

thanks

Im pretty sure the fd-8 has an optical out. can you connect that to your soundcard?

I have an FD4

I'm planning on buying a stand alone CD-R and using my optical out into the optical in on the burner.

I'm leaning toward consumer grade for this, unless someone tells me that it's worth spending twice as much for a prosumer or better unit.

I purchased a Phillips CDR 78S (consumer grade) cd recorder back a month ago. this thing sound great, records at 2x and has digital optical in and coaxial in and out. Works very well for the little bit of mastering I have done with it so far. $319 dollars at Best Buys.
