I just purchased a FD4 w/internal harddrive. It was a floor model and didn't have a owners manual. I was wondering if I can connect to an external source ie:zip or hard drive? It has the parallel port on the back. I'll order my manual tomorrow.

Chris,
I have an fd4 as well although mine doesn't have an internal hard drive. Since you said your's has a parallel port then I don't see why you couldn't connect a zip drive or whatever. You will probably have to change the destination drive in the setup menu, but with the manual that shouldn't be hard. I don't have mine with me or I would look it up. If you want to try before you get your manual, let me know and I'll find mine.

Chris, unless you have a unique model, the FD-4 usually has a SCSI port on the back, not a parallel port. This is important, because parallel devices wont work on SCSI ports. But either way, you certainly could get a Zip drive or an Orb drive and back up the FD-4's hard drive on those. In fact, if you have any digital recording device with a S/PDIF in/out (such as a DAT machine or a computer) you can download a FD-4 to such a unit. So wait for your manual before you buy anything. You may already have what you need.

Peace, Jim

Thanks for the advice Jim. I ordered my manual today. It should be here tomorrow. As you probably noticed I'm not very knowledgable on recording. I think I'll get a
lot out of this site. I'm looking forward to creating projects. Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply Madadam. I'll be getting my manual tomorrow. At least I know that I'll be able to download off my harddrive.
