Hi folks!

Just a simple question for you all - at the moment I'm recording my songs on my trusty ol' FD4, but have now purchased a 700mhz PC with a SB live! 1024 soundcard, 20gb hard drive, CD-R etc etc. All I want to do on the PC is to record backing tracks consisting of drums, piano and bass samples, and play guitar and add vocals over the top. Do I still need the FD4, or can I do it all on the PC? As far as I can see, I don't need the Fostex and can do everything on the PC before transferring it onto CD-R. Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I need the cash and would like to sell the 4-track!!

You can easily do it all on the PC, but you'll probably want a better soundcard eventually. You'll also need some mic pre's if you go this route (they're built-in to your 4-track). It'll cost a few bucks, but you'll end up with a much better system.

You can use the mic pre's on your 4-track and record direct to the computer through the line-in on the SB to get used to how it all works. It's easier to get started that way.
