Bruce,
Yeah i did. But I still may have something like that wrong--those are the kind of things I often overlook! I have a feeling--I'm hoping--that I'm just missing the boat on this and there's an obvious, realtively cheap solution. I probably should just take the Philips and the Fostex to a Radio Schack and ask them to mess around with the connections.thanks,
Baines
Dan

Baines,

Did you take the covers off the ends of the optical cables. They are there to protect them. All the optical connections are standard...........
Might be wrong and you may have already done that.....

This may well be a simpleton question, but I need help. I am using a Fostex FD-8 and mixing onto a Philips CDR 765. I have to use the rca connections right now to make cd's, and so I'm having to use analog and not digital-- and there does seem to be a sound loss. There is an optical connection point on both machines, but the optical cable that came with the Philips needs some sort of adaptor--it won't insert into either the Fostex or the Philips. Could you please tell me EXACTLY (fostex for dummies) what I need to attain a digitial connection between the Philips and the Fostex? thanks!

Philips recorder with lead that doesn't fit!?

My Philips CDR has a rectangular format connector which UK shops describe as "Toslink" and the Fostex manual with my VR800 describes as "S/P DIF" = Sony / Philips Digital Interface. Any ways Toslink at both ends works for me. Did you solve it already?

Phil
