fd-4 recording help (fd-4 users especially)

Ok, I used to own a porta studio and recording was a breeze, but now that i have entered the digital age, albeit with an early model, im almost lost..

i am trying to record several tracks using the monitor mode L/r so i can mixdown to stereo, let me show you the steps, then the problems..

1. set track 1 to input, then record..
2.set track to track 1 so i can hear and record with track 2
3. set track 2 to input and record

however, when i play it back, it seems as if the audio from track 1 is being recorded onto track 2 alon gwith the new stuff.. this makes it impossible to equalize the volumes and really pisses me off because i lose some of my best stuff to quiet vocals, or something...

i want to know how you keep the audio from one track from being recorded onto the next track and the only way I have figured out is by using the mon monitoring mode which only allows me to mix down to mono, which I dont want.

Pardon me, but I speak jive. ;^)
Errr, at least I have an FD-8 and may be able to help you. Here goes...

1. Plug into any one of your four inputs and switch the selector over the fader to "input" as you have been doing. Make sure all the other input selectors are set to "OFF"!

2. Set the pan knob over this switch all the way left.

3. Push the 1L button under the display screen ( it should be blinking).

4. Hit record once so that it is blinking and set your input levels set as normal. You should be in "MON" mode with the track 1 MON section set to "TRK1". You should be hearing yourself through the 'phones.

5.Hit record & play to go ahead and record your track.

6. When you finish hit stop, turn off the lit 1L button and turn on the 2R button.

7. You can keep using the same input as you used on the first track, only this time turn the pan knob all the way to the RIGHT.

8. Again, make sure all other input selectors are set to the "OFF" position.

9. Repeat steps 4 & 5, though with the Trk 2 MON section turned towards "TRK2". Adjust the respective volume of the two tracks with these MON knobs.

10. Hit stop.

You should now have two seperate tracks. I suspect that the problem is with unused selector switches being left on "input" or doing two tracks at once with the pan knobs not set hard left and hard right.
