Here's my 1983 Fender Squier Japan SQ Strat. The poor bugger's had a hard life, but I'd never part with it.

Damn! What the heck kind of finish is on that strat? It looks like it was dipped in plastic before being beaten to death!
I had a Charvel 475 that had the pointy tip of the headstock broken off, my Les Paul has a few tattoos (and a new crack in the neck), and my old Alvarez Regent has too many scars to mention. The most pleasing of its flaws to me is that I've worn down the rosewood fretboard in all of the 1st position frets by playing it so much for so long. It looks like a weird scalloped fret jobbie. I finally retired that one when I got my Martin. No blemishes on that Martin other than sweat and tears.

It's a very thick, high quality one!
Most of the damage came from throwing it to the floor whilst having a total blob-strop* on stage. Unfortunately it landed between the legs of a cymbal stand. 
*Brit. perjorative slang; literally, to have an uncontrolled, unjustified temper tantrum like a pre-menstrual woman.

Yeah, well, what do you expect, leaving it leaning against the barn door like that?
Fender actually DOES "dip (guitars) in plastic." It was originally called Fullerplast, but now they use a different formula. I once railed against it, but what the heck, they are still good guitars.
I still have my first electric guitar- a MIJ Telestar, loose copy of a 335. I carried it in a Crew de Vieux parade (a marching carnival crew in New Orleans) and it DROPPED OFF THE STRAP AND A WOODEN-WHEELED CART ROLLED OVER IT!! Got some noticable finish cracks from that, but it didn't get crushed, and still plays.

Once, I was climbing a fence because the gate of the premises I was shortcutting through turned out to be locked and I just couldn't be bothered to walk all the way round again ~ I had a bus to catch. So I rested my crummy Ozark electro acoustic on the other side of the fence while I climbed. But it fell to the ground. As it was in it's case I thought nothing of it till the next day when I went to play and found the neck broken from the body. I did get it fixed but the neck has always been a little loose. It plays OK (this all happened in '96 ~ I still use it now) but one unexpected bonus is that you can bend the neck to get bent notes when playing chords, altering the sound by a semitone. Sometimes it sounds wicked !

I thought more people might have relished the opportunity to show off their abused instruments. Unless it's something they prefer to keep behind closed doors, like wife-beating.
