Do any of my Analog Brotha's have a favorite Recording Industry magazine that is currently on the market that seem to include more reference to analog recording, and/or equipment more so than other magazines that are just strictly digital recording. . .!

Anyway, I was just wondering if there is a particular Recording Magazine currently on the market that you analog guys like to read, that seem to include the analog format more than most. . .or are all of them pretty much geared for the digital media.

Industry magazines are iron wheels of the Industry Train. They take the happy passengers exactly where the industry railway leads :p

They ALL are geared for serving the industry and satisfying the industry needs of the day. You read them (if you have time to kill) for entertainment, not for reference, for laughter - not for education, and you keep ("collect") them (if you have space to waste and really experience itchy need for a hobby) as evidence archive. ;)

Nothing that I know of… not since Tape-Op, which now accommodates the digital industry more than they used to. They do have a few archived on-line articles you may find interesting.

I still enjoy reading my old mags. One of the best things for someone to do is to look for people selling bundles of magazines on eBay.

Look for the following, dating from the early 80’s through about 1994. (though some of these mags weren’t around until the mid-80’s).

International Musician & Recording World,
Home & Studio Recoding
Music Technology
Sound on Sound
EQ
dB
Recording Engineer/Producer
Electronic Musician
Music & Sound Output

It’s usually better to read old magazines that aren’t looking back at analog as “Vintage.” I have a boatload of these periodicals going back to 1982. I pick up a new issue of Electronic Musician or Recording magazine every once in a while, but they just don’t send me.

They mostly send my blood pressure as I’m reading about the digital Oz everyone thinks they’re in (like watching an infomercial does). If I want to feel silly like that way I usually skip contemporary recording mags and go right to UFO Times. The stories there seem somehow more believable after suffering through a glowing review of a MoogerFooger plug-in, or something in Electronic Musician. :D

And in the old mags you’ll never see terms like “Analog summing.” You’ll definitely be back in Kansas on good old terra firma… There’s no place like home. :)

I just picked up an old book (circa '78) "Home Recording For Musicians" by Craig Anderton and it all revolves around tape machines and analog recording in general. I always get a nice warm feeling when I glance over it. "There's no place like home" indeed ... ;)

TapeOp by far is the best industry mag I've read for recording.
