Favorite Overheads?

I've never noticed any problems with phase in my room, and it's definitely not dead. I don't have the TC30Ks, though, I only have the ECM8000s.

I was wondering, I've heard pretty cool things about those behringer ECM 8000 mics, for so cheap, they seem to be a bargain. Is there any place were they sell them as matched pairs?

Not that I know of, but I just bought two off the shelf at guitar center, and they're matched closely enough for me.

As far as I know, they don't sell AKG 414 b-uls in matched pairs...so do you guys use Harvey's mic matching methods to get a nice pair? Im thinking about getting one now, and then buying another later...when I can afford it.
 
One really great LD omni, which one depends on the drummer, the room, and the style of music. That is one end of the spectrum, sound wise. The other end would be a pair of really great SD omnis. Earthworks TC30Ks or TC40Ks, or DPA 4006 or 4007. I could also very easily be convinced to try a pair of Schopes 222s with mid-field omni capsules, but I have never actually used them for overheads.

Good god yes!!! That is one of the things which makes this sound so good. What you are thinking of as "phase problems", could also be called REVERB.

Not all phase issues are problems.

Anyways, omni directional mics, by there very nature, cause fewer phase issues in the mic than cardioids.

If money were no object I guess I'd be stuck with a pair of Sank modified KM-84's and a nice U67 out in front with a couple of Daking's for the 84's and a mono DW Fearn on the big-un....thats of course, money is no object.....
 
Interesting comments about the mic voicings vs eq'ing. I use QTC-1's, but down near the drummers sholders/arm area. This has been a good kit vs cymbal balance point, but I've recently added a (cheap) pair overhead to get more high end and 'spread' options, which is helping.
But I'm also finding I'm often adding a bit of high shelf or mid cut to the qtc's...
