Ive noticed that in my collection certain guitars sound best with certain amps. For example:

My SG Standard sounds BADASS with my Gibson GA-5 Les Paul Jr amp. My fenders (IMO) just dont sound that great compared to the SG with this amp.

My US Fender strat AND my MIM Tele both sounds awesome in my Blues Jr. The SG sounds pretty good too but just not special.

My Epiphone Galaxie 10 Tube Amp only sounds good with the SG.

I just got Peavey Classic 30 and the SG (again) sounds good with that but my les paul faded DC with P-90s sounds just like Malcolm Youngs tone so I prefer that one.

On a side note: I am noticing that the Peavey 30 just doesnt sound as good as the one in the store. It ALMOST sounds like one of the tubes are going microphonic on me (if thats the correct term) I might ship it back. It just doesnt seem to have any character with the Fender guitars.

Whats your favorite guitar/amp combo?

Im ALL ABOUT going staright into the amp. I dont understand why you would not use the true overdriven tube sound that your tube amp was designed to make.

I seriously dont own one pedal. I tried them and bring em back. Its not for me.

Regarding my Peavey Classic 30. I just came to the conclusion after messing around with it that the "Boost" switch was f***ing up my sound.

Once i shut that off and made some other adjustments i am getting the same sound i got in the store witch is very sweet with the Les Pul Jr. DC with the P-90s.

I'm digging the sound of my MIM Strat straight into the Blues Jr.......Mmmm mmmm

epiphone g400 with peavey ... something I forgot what amp that was, I'm tired. but on recording, the distortion sounds so creamy and delicious.

I have no favourite sound of my own ATM (I'm between amps) but Matt Embree from the Rx Bandits gets an amazing clean sound on the album Progress. I think he uses a LP into a Mesa Boogie something or other

A tele straight into a twin mmmmmmmm............. and of course a nice amount of reverb.

les paul-> marshall, sg-> orange, anything-> vox ac-30.

strat into a champ

home built strat into a Fender Champ
makes a great tone for the most part
although i wish i had reverb in the mix.

the band i am with just wants drive and loud
not the smooth sound of jazz more of a hard rock i guess
so i use a Line 6 with my strat and that sounds good
no pedals used on any of the rigs there

acoustic i run right through a little Crate BX 15
the thing sucks for bass but acoustic guitar sounds nice and clean
or i can turn everything up on the EQ and get a tube sound that sounds like Les Paul! with my fishman rare earth humbucking pickup

wish i had a better guitar like a Gretsch or something oh well..... thats next

For my money you can't be a nice Tele right into a Hot Rod DeVille

64 Strat and Mason Amp

This never fails me. 64 Strat strung .012-.056, Mason Amp (12 watts, made in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada in the mid 50's)

Hot Rod Deluxe clean with a Tele and reverb
Hot Rod Deluxe dirty with any P-90 guitar's bridge pickup

I've always been in the strat into a Marshall camp. I can live with any guitar into any pedal as long as it ends up with a couple of power tubes on the verge of exploding.

The Red Guitar I finished last year (mahogany neck through, ash body wings, ebony fingerboard, and a maple top) through a Vox AC-30. By far, the best clean sound I have ever heard.

I can only seem to find "the tone" in a music store.
