Public Animal Number 9- Alice Cooper.

Pictures of Home-Deep Purple (From Mahine Head) Ian Paice on drums.

I aint ever gonna confess. I cheated on the math test. And now its time for recess.

I need to cover that one !!!!

How bout Moody Blues. "Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" Simple but works

* when I was a freshman in High School, back in teh 1900's - Quiet Riot came out with "The Wild and teh Young" I thought that was teh awesomest intro ever

* I want to be free - Ohio Players. Intro doesn't match teh song. Same thing though as the Pr1nc3 song below

I can't find this song in my collection.

* Pr1nc3 - "Shhhh" Again, Intro doesn't match teh song. This drummer was/is a complete drum monster.

"The Difference Between Medicene and Poison is the Dose..." by Circa Survive.

sweetest tone ever! 20 or 18" maple kick drum too, i think. (masters of maple drums?)

Drum Intros

Two fav's:

"The Central Scrutinizer" - Vinnie Caliuta on Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage

This isn't really an intro, it's the whole song - "Liberty" by Tony Williams on Native Heart

OMG, Quiet Riot made some mediocre music.

Michael Bland is a great drummer.

I love the drum sound on Led Zeppelin IV: Rock And Roll. Not only a great drum intro, but also the ending.

Bill Bruford's 2-bar intro to South Side of the Sky (Yes -- Fragile) isn't too sloppy.

Nothing beats New Day Rising, by Husker Du. Totally simple, but totally moving.

Husker Du was a great band...whose recordings were ruined by that god-awful Bob Mould production. This has always been a point of frustration for me cuz I love their songs I just can't get passed that horrid sounding production.

Signals - Wayne Krantz - Dennis Chambers

Zach Danziger was *amazing* on Krantz's Long To Be Loose album, but most (if not all) of the songs ease in with guitar so there's no drum intros there.

Low Rider by War.

That starts with a cowbell too, much like Honkey Tonk Woman.

Hard to Handle by the Black Crowes is a great start.

Winner hands-down...

Song for the Dead - QOTSA.

The intro is amazing, the outro is even better.

You have to check this out

There are several drum intros that I've always considered to be totally awesome. I'll cut to the chase, though, and just say that I think my fave has always been Vital Transformation, which is a song by the Mahavishnu Orchestra with (of course) Billy Cobham on drums. It isn't just that it's mind-blowingly wicked (there's lots of that out there); it's that he does it in 9/8 time! Painful folks, just painful. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and check it out. You'll be happy you did. Oh, the song is on the album "The Inner Mounting Flame" in case you want to check it out.
