Hey all,

I've been recording for years, just not in the computer realm. I am making the switch and have purchased Sonar 4, PE.

What is the fastest way to learn Sonar 4... any suggestions? Are there any DVD's out there or other resources to learn? I know about www.digitalmusicdoctor.com and was thinking about getting their CD.

Suggestions?

Thx,
jp

hi,

there is a pretty good series of books called "Sonar Power" you should look into those, I believe that there are PDF versions as well. I read the one for version 3 and it was great!

I guess it really depends on the fastest way you learn, If you learn well by video tutorials then the Digital Doctor one may be for you. From what I understand though, it doesn't go into much audio recording detail..it's more of an overview thing (which is o.k....it's just not detailed)

I've been using Sonar for a while and to me it has an easy interface and a simple learning curve. I think the hardest part for me is always setting up the drivers/audio/midi settings etc.. :D

You've made the right choice with Sonar though, IMO there isn't a better multitracker for windows...

for now, just keep messing with it and find out what all the buttons do......keep at it, you'll get it!

good luck

I second the SONAR power books but before you go out and buy it, play around with it and read the book that came with the software. I took the approach of getting what I need it to do "right-now"...then learned the bells and whistles. I figured that the first thing to do was to get tracking. Used the book that came with it and started digging in.

You'll get a lot of help right here too :D . The cakewalk site has a pretty decent forum as well.

seeing as you already know a fair deal about recording and whatnot, you probably don't even need any extra help books. sonar 3 came with tutorial, and i'm sure sonar 4 does as well. Whip through those, read the help file and just play with some tracks... they make recording easy

You could always try to press F1 once in awhile if you see something you don't know how to deal with...;-)

PS! F1 is global function key for "Help"....
