OK everyone!! What is the mother of all guitars when it comes to speed? And how much does it cost? :D

DUh!
I know it's dependant on the player. But then again fret action. size of fret spacing, distance of fretboards all come into play...This will definitely enhance speed :D

I am a metal guitarist and play lots of fast speedy slayer, the haunted etc - I would only use Jackson's - get a Jackson RR3 or something. I love RR3's.

USA Series like the RR1 have awesome necks also.

The main thing with speed is to get a nice clean neck that is smooth and the Jackson's have these - stay away from the Jackson Performer's though.

I'll second Jonobacon

Go check Ibanez (wizard II neck is fuckin' fast), Jackson Performer series, and a special $300 Cort Viva.
This is something special! My main axe is a $1000 Ibanez S540FM TTS, and I (and a friend of mine, he's a sort of Petrucci...) played on this cheap Cort Viva, and we looked to each other and said : "Damn! Now that's a fast mutha!"
It has 2 humbuckers and a single-coil, an imitation-Lo Pro Edge tremolo, soundwise comparable to the more expensive Ibanezes...
Maverick is worth checking too.

Forget Gibson, Gretsch, Parker....

I'm the kinda guy that plays old Slayer, The Haunted, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth...so yeah...I know what it is to play fast.
(Hence the name Speeddemon...duh!) ;)

If its not a Jackson Its just a clone. Ive played the Ibenez and the Kramers and still like the jacksons necks better.

For the price the yamahas have fast necks they do cost over a thousand less than the Jacksons.(I have an original, not a reproduced version).

Im an avid Ibanez Player, even before the current RG Vai codesigned ones. I have a Roadstar, a custom PR1660 and a recently a RG350. Ive palyed alot of Jacksons, Charvels, Gibsons, Strats...Valley Arts and a Warmoth. If shred is your penchant I would investigate either a Yngwie scalloped neck endorsee special or a Micheal Angelo custom. Micheal is one of the fastest and what ever he is playing should be pretty good. The cost of the Ibanez models that are built for real speed would be the PGM model and the Vai, Pettrucci types.
Zakk Wylde Plays a Gibson and some of his riffs are pretty fast sometimes. The basics are a thin neck with a relatively flat back, but you will sooner or later have to see how the guitar fits your hands and your body. A guitar can't make you fast, but it can make it a little easier. I like guitars, regardless of who makes them, more is always better :0).........

Peace,
Dennis

I have had only 2 guitars in my entire 20 year musical career. (shhh..I was really poor). I got my second guitar 2 years ago...the IBANEZ RG320. I think it's pretty fast, but the sound is a bit thin I think.

So I don't have the experience to mention anything fast. But I am partial to the IBANEZ because they look totally cool and are probably the nicest looking(sexy) guitars on this planet.
Next time I will get something more expensive, but will probably stick to an IBANEZ.
keep posting fellas :D

The fastest?

that would be the Fenderrari Indycarster

:D

My jackson pro standard has the fastest neck of any guitar I have ever played but I usually use my ES335.

What is the mother of all guitars when it comes to speed?

Which ever one Eddie's playing! :D

I'll just run along now...........

On the first three cds he played Jacksons.

When Kramer was giving him free axes he played those.

Ernie ball made him a custom model and that is the current model.

His best work was on the Jacksons.

mmmmmmmmmm

I heard Michael Schummacher bought a Squier Tele... that makes it the fastest of all...if he carries them along with him....

Peace...

You want speed out of a guitar, do what Yngwie did and learn how to play on scalloped frets.
