Fast Track Pro and Synth's Audio in S/PDIF?

Hey everyone.

I have a Fast Track Pro and I was hoping to be able to connect my E-MU Proteus 2000's S/PDIF out to the FTP's S/PDIF in to direct its audio to my monitors that are connected to the TRS outputs on the FTP.

I've messed around with the FTP's settings in Windows Vista, but I can't get any audio out of my Proteus. The Proteus' settings are set to S/PDIF output. Should this work at all? I'm starting to question whether or not I understand the function of the FTP's S/PDIF plugs.

If not, is there a way to do this using only the FTP? Is my only option to skip S/PDIF and send it through one of the front inputs, or get a small mixing board?

Make sure you set the Fast Track to use S/PDIF for its sync signal. Otherwise, the S/PDIF input is generally muted.

Thanks for your reply! I'll check it out tonight to make sure I didn't overlook this and report back.
 
S/PDIF is enabled in the windows mixer, sounds and M-Audio control panel. I don't really know what else to do. I haven't seen anything for "sync." Is this something I have to control in my DAW (Cubase Studio 4)? :confused:

Should be in the M-Audio control panel. At least it is on the Mac.
 
As it turns out, my s/pdif was set up properly in the control panels. What I had to do was create an audio track in Cubase (using Studio 4) and set it to monitor s/pdif in, then output to stereo.

I had assumed the Fast Track Pro would just route the s/pdif signal to the monitors on its own without this extra step, but at least this works, and it sounds great. I suppose I could also use it to record all of my midi to this track when I do a final mix.

Just leaving my solution behind for future reference. Thanks everyone. :)
