Fast Track c600??? Pro Tools 9 outputs select speakers NOT switches on C600?

Hi Folks,
I've been using Pro Tools 9 with C600 interface for a while and could always use the switches on the interface (outputs A, B or C) to switch between speakers sets. I upgraded to a new system and after reinstalling hardware/software, Pro Tools now requires me to select between speaker sets in the output of the master fader (A 5-6 in the graphic). How can I get Pro Tools to send the output to the C600 so that I can use the A-C switches to pick the speakers I want to hear? Is that making any sense or what. Thanks for the help and all the keen insight around here. Take care.

OK, just to be clear, you used to just send your software output to Master 1+2 or whatever it was called,
and that sound would be available at any of the hardware outputs provided the physical switch was on for nay given output?
(I wish I had that!!)

Now the software discriminates between each pair of outputs, which of course is hassle in Protools cos you have to change the output for every track or aux. Been there.

Hmmm. Is there any software mixer with the C600? Maybe there are routing options there?
I know my motu 828 mk2 has some routing options that I just don't get. Sometimes it throws me a curveball and makes me work for my audio feedback. :p

Howdy Steenamaroo,
Thanks for the swift reply. You got it right and yes there is a mixer with that thing. I'll look into that and see what's going on, good thought sir. Alas, it all setup super fine on my previous machine darn it!

No probs.
Hopefully it's as simple as that. I can't see a new version of PT changing the goal posts.
Let us know how you get on, yeah?

This just in...

Steenamaroo... I goofed around with a couple of things in there and ended up making things work. Now I can select from the 3 speaker outs, or select all, from the Fast Track C600. The settings pictured work as needed. Thanks for making me look around a bit harder and working some things out Steenamaroo. My best to you and your musical efforts sir.

Ah great; So you don't have to change the selection in PT?

How'd ya fix it, incase anyone else has the same issue?

As long as the Out 1-2 is selected in PT9, the Fast Track C600 can route the signal to 3 sets of speakers (called a, b and c in pic) and 2 independent headphones all with old fashioned "analog" buttons right on on the box. My studio monitors are in A, a subwoofer I can turn off and on in an instant in B, and some cheap computer speakers in C.

I reset the original settings on the software mixer (dsp, built in reverb, routing, etc.) and after a good reboot and a couple of kicks, it's rolling!
Thanks again Steenamaroo and your studio, web and work all looks and sounds real fine. Great stuff.View attachment 79214

Great to hear. Thanks for the report.
That really is a great feature on an interface. I don't think I've seen that before!

Thanks for the kind words, and welcome to HR. :)

Under the Hood with the C600 Control Panel

BarneyKeys,

Welcome to the BBS. Just going a little farther into what is happening "under the hood"... Please forgive me if I'm explaining something that you already know:

When you open the C600 Control Panel, the faders on the left control the amount of input signal that is sent to the monitors and headphones (headphone 1 mirrors Monitor A - aka 1/2; headphone 2 mirrors Monitor B - aka 3/4). The right faders are Software Returns (i.e. output from ProTools).

When ProTools is pushing the main mix to output 1/2 on the C600, you simply need to set the "Software Return" faders 1 and 2 to unity on each output tab (see screenshot below). The output tab for Analog 3/4, for instance, is what is sent to Monitor B and headphone 2. If you walk through each tab and set the Software Return faders to unity (all the way up) for returns 1 and 2, then each monitor - A, B, and C - receive the same signal from ProTools and you can simply toggle the monitors using the buttons on the C600.

To prevent ProTools from resetting this each time, click on the Setup menu in the upper right corner and make sure that "Disable Host Control" is checked. This leaves the C600 Control Panel in charge of your monitor and headphone mixes (photo 2).

Nice to see others on the board with a C600. It gets a bad rap sometimes, but mine has been flawless, and it has lots of fun little features that are often overlooked!

Hi David,
I missed the screenshot on your post but I think I follow you David. Heck, I'm in Lawrence I could darn near drive over and take a look, ha! I love the c600 tons. I've had a few interfaces and this thing is awesome. I'll take a look at the mixer a bit more carefully and apply your knowledge as I look it over.
I'll figure out this new interface yet thanks to the fine help around here. Thanks again David. Good stuff.

Hey, here's a related question: I have been using a Fast Track C600 for a couple of years, and ever since I either a) upgraded my PT to 9MP or b) brought home a session from a pro studio, my signal routing has been confusing to me. That is I can't get headphone 1 two to mirror headphone 2. I know that headphone 2 only works under wall power, and I'm good there. I seem to recall there was a button on the C600 software mix panel to make headphone 2 mirror headphone 1, but I can't find it.

Alternatively, I thought, well, I should be able to figure out how to route a mix plus a few input channels to 1/2 and 3/4 at the same, but my knowledge of buses (other than the kind on the street) is too limited. Suggestions?

Thanks!
