Fast track by M-audio in Cool Edit 2.1

I just bought the Fast Track by M-audio and besides the fact that their instructions didn't really fit to what I was seeing on the screen, I still got it up and running quite easy and I'm impressed by what it can do.

The only thing now that I'm having a problem with , is recording it in Cool edit pro 2.1 .

I get Guitar and drum sound from fast track through my speakers until I press record in Cool edit and then the sound is gone. It goes away as soon as the record button is pressed and ends up recording nothing. As soon as I stop recording, the sound for fast track comes back.

Any suggestions ?

Since I don't know much about the M-Audio, I'm going to give you basic answers. I've never used the M-Audio but, that's neither here nor there...

1. In Cool Edit, did you set the M-Audio as the record source input? Click on the Grey/Silver "REC1" box on Track 1 in multitrack view, and make sure it's set as the recording client for Cool Edit.

2. Did you install the M-Audio with the WDM drivers or the ASIO drivers? Cool Edit will not recognize a ASIO driver as it's not compatable. You must use the WDM drivers for this.

Those are both pretty basic steps, so maybe you overlooked one the other or both. Sorry I can't help more than this.

#1 Yup I did and it is.

#2 I do believe that M-audio has it's own drivers because I had to instal them and up date them from their site so maybe the problem is that cool edit isn't compatable with the drivers from fast Track .

That would be a shame to because these two programs together would be a killer combo for home recording.

Another program I use on and off is Cubase and in fact, My bands second CD was recorded with it and gets radio play on 14 different radio stations so far so that's not to bad for a home recorded project but I still prefer Cool edit anyday over Cubase.

Well now I can get sound from the fast track as long as I press record first in cool edit pro 2.1 but it is still recording nothing so that tells me that I must have something set wrong in cool edit. I sent a message to some one at M-audio and they told me that Fast track can be used with cool edit so I just have to mess around with it a little more.

For what it's worth (and it ain't worth much), I can't run Cool Edit and Fruity concurrently. Or rather, I can open them both, but they refuse to share any tracks simultaneously. I don't understand computers well enough to know why that is, but I understand the disadvantages of it well enough to know I wish it was different...

I have Fruity loops and it runs fine for me with cool edit open at the same time. I use fruity for drums and synth. I got professional drum samples and then created a folder in FL for them.

These computers are the funniest things at times. What works for one, does not for another.
