The electric guitar sounds a LOT better now.The guitar actually sounds good now. It's not a distraction now that the harshness has been removed.Good job on the re-mixes.
Thanks. I think I'll let this song sit a little before I try to improve it any more.

NO way!Thats what this forum is all about, getting feedback,re-mixing and posting the results.
True, true. Another valuable thing I've learned about this forum is that it's a great way to get your post count up :D.

:DJust about all of my posts were made in this forum.LOL.You've been a member over a year so you can go ahead and change your "Custom User Text" right under your avatar where it says "dedicated member" to anything you want it to say.

When did that change? Or did it? Maybe I'm just slow. Oh well.

Anyway, I've changed my text, but it doesn't seem to be accepting my change. It was a leftist slogan, so maybe we've got a Republican server running this here website :D .

Ahhh, I figured it out. Don't check the "reset" box:) .

Okay, I know this is mathematically impossible, but this mix is about a billion per cent better.

I honestly don't know if it's "okay" now or not, but it's so much better...lol... I think you're done.

Kool. I'm pretty sure it's OK. I think I am close to meeting my quality goal with this song, which was to sound close in quality to the Wedding Present song "Up." I always have to have some sort of target like that or I'll never be happy with a mix.

Sounds a lot better. Snare may still be a little loud and thuddy, but at this point it may be a preference thing.

Oooh I love that lead. It might be nice to have the trumpet stay in the song after the lead, just doing some notes here and there.

Guitar sounds a little grating. Maybe some highs could come out?

Yeah, I think so. When I compare this track to songs I wanted to emulate a little, the snare is actually quieter in most cases.

Ahh, maybe, but I'm not going to call the trumpeter back in to do that. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Nope. That's a stylistic thing at this point. I wasn't going for a "warm" sound. I've significantly warmed it, but any more will stray too far from my artistic intent.

Thanks for your comments.

Nice song! I really like it and your mix is sounding good.

What kind of drums are you using?

They're my brother in law's drums. I wanna say Mapex. Is that a brand?

Yeah Mapex...

Your getting a good sound, far better than the sound a drummer I've worked with before. You know if they are "high end" drums? By high end I mean something substantially higher than $500. If your getting that sound on $500 drums my drummer buddy needs to go back to the drawing board, or the mixing board I should say.

What Mics and Pre's?

The drums were around $1500, from what I understand.

For this song, I used Behringer ECM8000s for overheads into a Presonus Blue Tube. Snare was a 57 into a Focusrite Penta, and bass was a ATM Pro 25 into a JoeMeek MQ3.

hey cominginsecond, I just wanted to say that I really like this song..... one problem though. I've noticed that I can't listen to the whole thing all the way through....... and when I opened the song in cool edit, I realized why...... it's just a TAD too compressed. I know this kind of music lends itself to compression, but I think you overdid it a bit. if you could just ease up on it so that there's some dynamics left, I think it could be even better.

Yeah, you're right. I'm not going to compress it at all for the final version. I’m sending it to be mastered. I'm sure they'll do a good job with that stuff.

good call. I think a professional mastering job will really help put the finishing touches on this. I look forward to hearing it.

OK, for those of you that are interested, here's my latest version of the mix:

Drums are a little quieter. Acoustic guitar's a little louder. There's a little more reverb on the backing vocals. Probably too much, but I don't feel like reuploading this song on my dialup connection.

Did I mention I love the trumpets? Can I PM you when I need one? ;)

Thanks, but I didn't play the part. Plus I don't have an extra few thousand bucks to fly to the Netherlands. Plus, for all I know, I'm on John Ashcroft's "do not let this guy fly" list for my subversive, anti war activities :)

I can tell you how I recorded them. I used my SP B3 in omni, into my Focusrite Penta, into my RNC (4:1 ratio, medium attack, medium release, Really Nice Mode, with big blasts getting about 4 db of gain reduction), and into my Delta 44. I applied a little Renaissance Reverb. No compression other than while tracking. I had her cut eight or nine decent tracks, picked the best three, panned one down the middle, and panned the other two at about 40 percent Left and Right. The track panned down the middle was much quieter than the panned tracks. Then I boosted a little bit around, I think, 7 Khz. That's it.

hey, you wouldn't maybe want to listen to MY song, now would you?
