It kind of grows on you. As soon as my little son heard it, he was jumping all over the place - a good sign ! I think I like it's elements more than the song itself, though it's a good song.
It reminds me of bits of the Sex Pistols' "God save the Queen" but only bits. The vocal has that neat sarcastic lilt that guys like Randy Stonehill and T. Bone Burnett used to use so effectively and having now heard your voice, you're wrong when you say you can't really sing. You ain't Luther Vandross......but then, nor is he {!}. Your voice is OK, you know, it's not one of those that makes a song irritating and unlistenable. The lyrics are full of clever little puns and is damning evidence against you in your "I can't be bothered with lyrics" case ! Sorry !
I like the 'in yer face' scream of the guitars and the meaty upfront thwack of the drums and I could hear the kick clearly.
The only thing I'm confused about is how the song qualifies as a 'ballad type !'

Good song, Greg. No nits from me. Very clean sound considering the layering.

Nice,

Wig:)

Haha, thanks dude. Um, I guess I consider it a ballad in the sense that it's softer, sweeter, and much slower than my usual stuff. :D

Thanks man. :)

You now, Greg, considering how much you seem to get off on being an insufferable prick, it pains me to admit you've at least got the talent to back it up. :D

Not really my usual sort of stuff, but it brings me back to summers in high school with Rancid and the Ramones blaring on the stereo - that's a good thing.

Drum sound is phenominal. What the fuck, man. :p You've probably posted this somewhere before, but how exactly are you capturing those? What's your room like, and how are you micing?

Hey thanks dude, I think. :p

And thanks about the drums. I'm constantly trying to improve, but I've been pretty happy with how they have been coming out lately. I don't really have any secrets. My drums and cymbals are pretty good. Mapex Pro-Ms with Evans heads. Paiste 2002 cymbals. I use inexpensive Cad Pro drum mics and pay careful attention to placement and tuning. My room is moderately treated with OC703. Bass traps in the corners and reflection absorber panels around the kit and on the ceiling.

Don't worry, it was sincere. :D

Ahh, so it's just getting a good source sound, and then not fucking anything up when you start tracking? That's a pretty strong case to be made for learning how to nail the fundamentals. :laughings: Thanks man! I've read that drum guide of yours before, but I'll give it another go the next slow day I have at work.

Yeah, pretty much. If it doesn't sound good to begin with, it never will "on tape". For example, a snare that sounds bad in the room will sound downright shitty recorded. If you close mic a bad snare, and use 2 overheads, that's 3 mics picking up a bad sound. Not good. Get the drums tuned right, and the drums almost mix themselves. As for tracking, I don't really pay much attention to my levels. I probably should, but fuck it. I don't let anything get anywhere near clipping. That's about as much thought as I put into it. I use the stock Firepod preamps and just let er rip. All of my drum tracks are basically the same thing - all pounding with no dynamics whatsoever, so they're pretty easy to track.
