Sam yeah, this piano sound isnt all that great. Im not using the "stereo grand" patch thats available on this board. .....havent quite figured out how to manipulate it yet. I think you would like that one though... It's pretty nice.
I was down to the Triton or the motif. That was a tough decision for me. After i burn out on this, I might look into the Motif rack that Yamaha anounced. I was really impressed w/ the sounds on that thing, just didnt like the interface.
Sam .....busted I used the ole 2 handed, 2 track technique I played the low parts and the high parts separately. .....Im a bass player damnit Thats why i didnt use the "grand" patch. I havent figured out how to get it into the seq. yet.
Hey Mike...to use stereo patches, you just need to use two quater inch TS cables plugged from L and R out puts to L and R inputs/channels of your mixer. If you don't have 2 channels to plug them into, you'll only get mono results. That was one of my first lessons in recording stereo last winter. (Oh, man...I need two channels for stereo???? Damn...)

.......yeah, i did that. The stereo grand is a combi though, and i cant seem to find it when i scroll around in sequencer mode. there must be a different way to acess it that i havent found yet. I mentioned the levels in the PM i sent ya. I was trying to reach 0 db with just the piano patch and i wasnt gettin it without overdoing the trim..... ....I just read up on the -12db thing you mentioned. .....all is ok now.....thanks man

-12dB is the average peak I always shoot for in tracking, regardless of what I'm recording. Maybe that's good, maybe that's bad, but it works well for me.
I don't remember much about sequencer mode...Can you actually use the sequencer for combi patches? Only time I've ever used it was for drums in a song last spring. And I was still using only one (mono) cable. error after error I tell ya...

damn that thing can just about do it all can't it. those patches always sound soooooo fucking smoooooottthhh. i don't know what it is. it's like the patches never sound totally real but they have their own signature sound that just sounds expensive for lack of a better term.

3:01 later...Very nice piece-the piano sounded kinda on the dull side to me-like it had a slight chorus on it-and not enough high overtones...the string sounds and brass sounds were real nice. I've never tried one of them babies (triton) out but considering it's prob worth more than my car I'm sure theres a ton of great piano sounds in there-damn nice gift! If this is something you whipped up-I imagine we'll be hearing some nice orchestrations-wolfgang guernicas . Enjoy your new toy!
