hey i'm doing a project and i was wondering if anyone know of some good websites which have the recording techniques of famous artists from the 60's and 70's, eg mics used ect...
full of stories about how classic tracks were recorded, a great read. not sure if there's enough detail for you, but it's cool to read how they did it...
Also try picking up the book, "Behind the Glass". GREAT READ! It has some famous producers and engineers talking about albums, songs, bands, equipment, etc. One of my favorites.
Which famous artist? ...on which famous recording?
One of the cool things from that era was that E-V-E-R-Y engineer and studio had a different sound and a different set of techniques... so depending on the artist, the studio and the engineer you get different skill sets on different recordings [where the artist, and what the artist learned from other engineers with whom they worked were one of the very few sources of cross pollination of techniques].
If you want to know what some people have used (guitars, amps, efx, etc...) try a search at http://guitargeek.com/ I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but this might help.
