Ecccchhhh.... That's one ugly-ass Strat.. or shall I say "Sorta-Caster"....

The shape of the body looks a bit odd.

To tell you the truth, I don't even think it's a Squire. It looks more like some crappy shitbox like and old Hondo.

That guitar ain't worth more than $50.

It's a piece o' shit.

I know of some dude here in Montreal who was apparently really good at aging guitars. He'd actually make them himself. The one trick of his that I remember was that he'd soak the, what, plastic or mother of pearl? machine head tops in coffee to make them look older. He'd sell these guitars for thousands of dollars, and they'd basically fall apart within a year. This was all before the internet and e-Bay, though. I figure if there's one of these 'entrepreneurs,' around, there's others.

Caveat Emptor.

Great link Buck, thanks!

It never occurred to me that my Strat copy, now at least 20 years old, is still improving in sound through aging. I figured it was just a copy and not really up to par with the real deal. But now I know that it's not just my ears: the thing really is coming along in its growth and becoming its own kind of vintage, regardless of what any non-playing collector would think.

I wish I knew exactly when I purchased it. I bought it in the early eighties at a guitar shop in Canada. It's got the word "Zender" on the headstock in complete parody of a Strat, made in Japan, creating ridicule and causing embarassment when it leaves the house, until people hear it. So there's no question that this thing is proud to be a knockoff. It's also a comfort to know that it grew in comformity with my constant playing. I guess being a packrat and refusing to pawn any of my instruments comes in handy in the long run.

I can't imagine who the **** would want to buy that.

Ah....learn something every day. 'Relic' as verb. To be 'reliced up.'

Jeez.....

Um, yeah, but I certainly have been a little slow to grasp that this is actually a 'concept' out there in guitar-land. As I said, learn something every day!
