Agreed. He's been registered all of a week, and his previous 16 auctions have nothing to do with Shure products. Might be a counterfeit scam; might be a "fell off the truck" special. Either way, I wouldn't want anything to do with him.

What??? Is it 2 days, or 7? And twice they say shipping cost not included- but in the listing is says..."Free shipping."

The likelyhood of this being one of the counterfiet chinese mics is high...that is if one really ever gets delivered

That ebay sale has been pulled as invalid, so I have no idea what he was trying to scam.-Richie

If you noticed, the items for which the seller had feedback (looked like fake feedback - many small transactions for items with no description) were all located in Hong Kong (although in the same city funnily enough). Does this city exist in both Hong Kong and Japan, or one, or neither? :D

Yeah hopefully ebay pulled it off. I guess that makes me wonder though, what is the difference or specs of a fake chinese/japenese sm-58 vs a real sm-58. Also, I was thinkin about getting one off ebay used, is there any way I can tell if it is real or fake.

no way that I am aware of to tell before sale, except a low price is a good clue. Unfortunately I am now very skiddish of all including used 57,58s on ebay.you got people who buy these and figure out that they are fakes and try to unload them(for a profit) then you got those that don't know they got fakes who need cash and sell what they think is real (for a profit). I think that at least 50% of the used market (57,58s)in ebay is fakes, but I might just be pessimistic because I got burned.

There's a few things to check for like weight,SPL the list goes on but unfortunately the only way to tell is when(if)you are holding it in your hands. And by then it's too late. The seller has disappeared and you're left out of pocket.
My advice - ONLY BUY FROM REGISTERED & AUTHORIZED SHURE DEALERS!
Do not buy outside of eBay if you do buy on there otherwise ebay will not want to know you.
Follow this to a "T" and you will be fine.

But the dealers only have new prices.

I have bought several used mics on ebay, but ONLY from private sellers with lots of ++++ feedback who are located in the USA........and they use proper "eengriss" in their replies while demonstrating that they actually know something about the item they are selling. :D

Only got burned once (on a pedal) but it turned into a freebie from the manufacturer because they couldn't repair it, so I ended up getting two pedals back from a non-warranty repair. The seller bought something used and cheap, had no idea how it worked, then resold it hoping to make a profit. I opened it up and it really did have the modded components in it, he just wasn't a guitar player and had never used any pedals. It worked but needed new pots. The factory replaced several components but couldn't get it back to spec, but it works better than ever for me, and I got a free B stock bass D.I. out of the deal.

But I doubt that I will ever buy a used 57 off ebay. For an extra $10 bucks I can go down the street and get a brand new one made in the USA from a dealer.

Not if you take the time to look(I'm talking about eBay here). I bought 1 from an authorized dealer(even checked him out through a national dealers list)and got the mic. $100 cheaper than what I'd pay for in a shop.
Pretty damn good in my book if you ask me.
So,do your homework...;)
