I just recently bought a ludwig 'fab four' vintage reissue kit on ebay. It came in today, and after briefly looking them over , i became suspiscious. i think they may be bogus. Then i thought maybe someone on this forum could provide me with the help i need. so here it is, the shells are wrapped with the finish, you can see the overlap on the mid tom clearly. on the inside of the kick drum, you can see where there is another hole in the wood for another tom to be mounted, but it was covered up by a piece of rubber., of course the finish wraps over the hole though.

also , on the drums, the ludwig logo is a cheap looking golden sticker type decal that is easily damaged and/or scraped off.

i havent headed the drums and tried to play on them, because of my apprehension. they overall just kind of look cheaply made. but maybe thats just how they are. does anyone out there know>??

My local Ludwig dealer has a set. I'll check them out and let you know.

I havn't heard of people faking kits before. It sounds as if you've been had.

Could we see some pictures? I've seen real ones, im confidednt i can spot a fake.

Doesn't look good to me....they shouldn't have any drilled holes as big as you've shown anywhere, all mounts are isolated. Also bad QC. Also the lugs look wrong (might be wierd pics though)

BUT i'm no expert. I'd say it's a fake.

Whats that link showing Jamal Bucket? The Fab Four kit isn't on there as far as i can see?

I have to agree it's a fake. Ludwig uses the keystyone badge on these sets. Not a decal. Also the shell looks to be very low quality. I'm not sure but looks as if the even used the wrong tom mount. Good luck.

Having another look now.....it is definatly a fake. That sucks mate.

Some people are just plain dicks. Did you buy it from a store on eBay? or a seller?

a seller. the whole thing is really frustrating. I admit i was very careless with the whole thing, but i'm still a bit upset at the seller.

that was a lot of hard earned money. im sick over it

Report him to eBay, Give him neg feedback telling people not to buy from him etc.

Not a lot you can do...

Do you have the link for the item when it was on eBay?

erm... first off, you should have taken note of the fact that it was "custom crafted"... second, it said they were mahogany shells... On the Ludwig website it shows the Fab Four under the "Classic Maple" section. But I don't know anything about the Fab Four drum set... Sorry dude :-(

OOO and on the Ludwig site it said the drum set was 20x14 bass, 14x14 floor tom, 12x8 tom, 14x5 snare. Not the same as the website.

It still sucks that this happened. It clearly states in bold large lettering GENUINE LUDWIG. Now I know not everyone is honest but it just sucks that its gotten to the point where you literally have to "investigate" someones product before you buy. I really do feel bad for you, hopefully you can disrupt some of this guys future business. What is the seller saying in response to your concerns?

I just got back from the store and they are right . You got ripped. Sorry dude. But I do have some good news.....................................I just saved alot of money on my car insurance! :D

I don't use e-bay so I don't know what legal options you have.

But if someone is manufacturing bogus Ludwig items and shipping via US Mail services - that may be a Federal crime.

I would also contact Ludwig, if someone is selling bogus Ludwig, they may try to pursue legal actions as well. If you help them stop this guy, perhaps they will offer you something.
