..this is a tune I've been working on for a bit....Its still pretty rough ,especially the guitar solo...still not sure how I wanna do it, but just wanted to get some feedback from some fresh ears.

Maybe rough around the edges, but cool none the less man. Has an 80's rock flair. I think it's put together well. Polish it up some, and will kick. Most of it sounds mixed pretty good. Stick a multiband on it, tame some of the rougher stuff, and see what it sounds like. I dig it man.... :D

Catchy enough tune. Solo stuff can be improved in places. But for the most part the solos are sounding cool. Vox are sounding cool just the way they are. Mix-wise, I don't really think anything needs to be changed. The rhythm and the bass go well together and sound cool.

Dogman, Bigbubba - Thanks for listening...yeah, to my ears this has kinda a overall harsh sound to the mix...not sure were/what to cut to smooth it out a bit, maybe lower mids around 250k?Gonna redo the solo again as I kinda know what I wanna do with it now.Using a auto -pan, delay, and wah setting on my pod xtl,and once i get the tempo synched correctly to the beat of the song, I think it will sound pretty cool!

What kind of multiband do you have to use? Some are pretty easy to just listen to the tune, and pull things down, or move bands over. That's what I do. Set it to barely do anything, and then just lower one band at a time, and see what it's doing. I don't think this would take much.

Dude when you say multiband, I don't know what that is. I keep thinking I'll ask but keep forgetting. :)

You be talking abouts a multiband compressa? Or teh EQ? :)

I'm talking compressor. This seems to have some peaks that jump out, and not just in one frequency. A multiband compressor might tame those, without altering the rest of the good stuff. Maybe.

A bit of dinking resulted in this. It may blow.

Some Dinking...

Hey man...that sounds much more "even" to my ears! What did you use?I don't think I have any multi track compressors....I use cakewalk guitar tracks pro, and whatever plugins come with it.
This sounds much better..although the playing/singing kinda blows...still working on it...

Hey man...go here...Buzz Room

There are freebies here. The Buzz Comp3 works very well. Just copy the .dll into your vst plugins folder.

Just listened to Dogman's mix

Found it nice and even throughout.....sounded like something from the radio....smooth....ok so there were less dynamics being compressed but it still had lots of punch.....meant to be a good comment.....

Although I usually mix OTB that plugin sounds pretty cool....I'll keep it in mind when I upgrade......

The tune itself is very rockin', catchy and groovin'. Lots of punch to the drums and cool guitar.....

Another good one Mr Variaxman.

Just had a listen. Dog's mix has a fuller, punchier sound to my ears.

You are getting good at this mixing stuff aren't ya Dog?!! :D

Nice song Variaxman!!

Thanks True, but variaxman mixed this...I just was showing him what a multiband compressor might do to help him even the sound out some. It does help to make the song have a more cohesive sound, and allows you to punch some of teh stuff up. It really makes his guitar shine here.

Yes it does Dog. It also brightened his vocals too!! :)

Thanks dude. Oh and the dinked version sounds very good. Actually does make it sound much better.

variaxman - The vox sound cool man. Smooth playing on the geetah. :)

Dogman - Dogman Mastering Services???? :)

Hey Mr. Axeman,
listening to the original mix first... Cool feel, like the groovy 80s feel. Nice vox too, the verb fits well. Overall the mix sounds like it could use a little more bass and lead sounds a little high pitched. Sounds like EQing the high end or compressig the peaks would help that. Nice wah sounds later in the song, nasty! :D

just listened to Dogman's drinkin action above... sounds like that fixed a lot of what I meantioned above.

Cool song man

Yeah, it brought them out different. He needs to just be more upfront with the vox. Funny thing is, he can sing, and hides his vox, I can't and put mine right up front.

Hey variaxman,

Excellent tune, the only constructive criticism I have is that there seems to be a little too much reverb on the vocals which tends to distance it in the mix.

I found the guitar playing very sweet, it reminded me of Ace Frehleys solo album tone.......soughta.....that's a good thing!!!!

Thanx for sharing with us!!

Gorty :)

Hey Dogman, that plugin thing looks real cool! The only thing is, my software,Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro Three only uses Direct X plugins...for vst,I have to purchase an adapter or something....I also have a copy if Soundforge which I might install to use for mastering type things and maybe I can use it in that..it looks real cool and now I'm jonesing to get my hands on something like that! Also thanks for the props on my vocals,I'm really working on getting better at it!

bigbubba, idol1957, true-ert, Snakedog, Gorty - Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment on the song....it definitely has a 80's sleeze metal vibe to it,My buddy, who is a really good writer, wrote the lyrics to this ,and really had that feel to em'...back then I used to dig bands like The Bullet Boys,Faster Pussycat,Bang Tango...so guess there is a bit of that embedded in my musical psyche (whew, that was kinda a deep thought  )annnyywayys, thanks again, I appreciate the feedback!
