Hello All! First let me start by saying I've been browsing these forums for a while now, and you guys are providing an insanely valuable resource to recording noobs like myself :)

I saw a deal on eBay that looks almost too good to be true. Can anyone let me know if this would be a fair price for a MSR 16S? I'm thinking of paying a maximum of 200€. Sorry the link is in French.

cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280172200439&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018

It doesn't really say much about the unit it's self except "the system has been completly tested before sale, funtions perfectly"

Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to give!

All I have to say is if you don't know what you're buying, don't do it. Really, it's the best advice disguised as a simple premise. Unless you can take a look at the unit in person (and know what you're testing and seeing) and can pick it up, you're playing with fire. As for the cost of the MSR16S, the ending price might signify a very good deal to a shitty deal, depending on the condition of the unit. Case in point, if the heads are shot then replacement (if a relap is not possible) is going to cost you more than the unit is worth, not to mention rotation of guides, servicing etc........ That is to say if every function indeed works as indicated.

I would steer the potential buyer away from auctions such as this, unless you can see and pick this unit up in person. Forget shipping as most people don't know how to pack and there is a high incidence of damage of such items.

Where about are you located?

Thanks for your advice, I decided to take it, as you bring up several good points. I'm in Paris, and would have been picking up the unit, but you raise a good point of needing to evaluate before purchasing. Thanks for your help cjacek!

You're welcome!:) That you're in Paris and will pick this unit up is a great, great thing! You're at least half way there. If you have the chance, report back and update us and, I'd love to see some close up head picts just to see how they are. I have all the confidence that you bought a really nice, working unit with hopefully not too much wear. If that's the case, you've got a great deal! Update us, ok? ;)
