A fairly nifty combination, don't you think?!

When not recording local bands, I sometimes get chance to chuck music together myself. Its not very serious, and I don't get the opportunity often, but I thought I share the first couple of tracks I've done with you guys to see what you think.

Rockstar, I've been told, shares a few close similarities with a certain Beck track, possibly a few too many similarities, but more people seem to like it overall.

The Living Dead is a tribute to my fav horror villian, the almighty Zombie! Its very tongue in cheek, definately not really an artistic statement of any sort, but it was fun to record. Listen out during the intro for one of the zombies accidently tripping over a tamborine that I stupidly left lying on the studio floor! :p So the saying goes; 'Don't work with children, animals or the undead!'

Sorry about this, but its a dreaded Myspace page.

Enjoy!

Listening to Living dead on headphones:

1. Mix seems to be a lil thin (lack of low end)

2. Intro ( brains) is a bit too long

3. Vocals are buried.

I have to really strain to hear the lyrics. I love the subject matter, and the whole thing is catchy and has a good vibe. It seems a bit trebly on the phones. It is good work however, very cool.:)

Man that is a cool vibe! Love the guitar intro and rhythms.
Honestly, I think you need to work with the vocals some, they just dont seem mixed right now, too low and hard to understand.
Cool structure and playing though, I really dig the tune! I'm adding you right now on my page ;)

love the zombie tune. it sounded good on my speakers. vocals need to be more up front though.

Hi

I really like Rockstar. Yes, there is a Beck influence but it's original on its own. Great song, recording and mix.

Excellent work!

Hi guys

DavidK, yes, neither track were mixed as well as they could be. Alas, I get so little time for my own music, its mostly thrown together in such a hurry! And the Zombie intro does get a bit tiresome after a while, sorry.

Snakedog dude! Now got you on my myspace, loving your stuff too! My vocals, mate. I'm not a natural or confident vocalist, in fact I'm a very reluctant singer at the best of times. All of the vocals on Rockstar were scratch vocals done with a battered old SM58 - I did rough vocals for the lot so I could build the structure of the song around them, but was in a hurry to finish so I pretty much left them as they were.

The Zombie track I did take a bit more time over, although the megaphone type vocals were agin done with the battered SM58, I recorded the singing on the chorus' with my good condenser mic.

Hopefully, as I write better stuff, I'll take my vocals a bit more seriously, these tracks were meant as experiments, so have all their rough edges left in!

New2mix, I'm glad you like the Zombie track, most feedback I've had is its the weaker song, although its my personal favourate.

And finally, Jack Real, as if to prove the point above, the Beck fans seem to go for Rockstar more. Thanks for your feedback.

Anyways, thanks everyone for your comments, don't know when I'll get to work on my stuff next, probably be a few months, but rest assured I shall drop it on hear to give you all a listen. Hopefully it will have better vocals too! :D
