Here it is again...
I've recorded the critical acoustic parts again and managed to eliminate the squeaks and lowered the ride cymbal. Other than that, it's probably the same mix.

Hope you can tell me if it's OK.

:)

Dont hate me dude but I prefer the other mix (though there is a small artifact right at the beginning of the track I just heard) the squeaks are a bit out there but by concentrating on removing them youve given the acoustic too sharp an attack for the song imho..

Im not sure what the solution is but I imagine its somewhere inbetween..

to be honest they never bothered me that much

soz :o

Better with no squeaks, for sure, but there is something about the acoustics tone that sounds kind of off. I mean it's good, but it seems to lack some body or depth. Like it needs more soundhole mic or something. Maybe you can fix it with EQ if you choose to. Bring up the low mids maybe?

I hate you....so there!:mad::mad:

Nah...not really, can't hate a Scotsman :D:D
OK, so it's back to the drawing board, I guess......:(

It's probably the way I've played it, Greg....too careful not to squeak. Guess I'd better try again.:o

I agree with Gerg. Acoustic needs more body.
Also, I think the ride is still a little too loud when it first comes in, and panned a little too hard. Vocal needs to be brought up a little. Sounds to far back in the mix.

Other than that, I like the spread on the acoustics. Electrics sound great. Lead sounds great. Very spacious mix, I love it.

Oh, and the dual guitar solo f**kin rocks! Very "...And Justice For All" if you don't mind me saying ;)

I can almost hear you concentrating on not squeaking! In the intro the lifts that were slides create a kind of stoccato effect so it's not so much a lack of depth as a change in the dynamic - you're creating spaces - I actually like the effect in some ways.
It's an Uberballad mate & the voice is pure Mizzi magic.

Sounds much better with the squeaks fixed.

Hey guys, thanx to all of you for chiming in!
I like it better without the squeaks too, but KC has a point. I've recorded those parts again now with a more flowing feel, but no squeaks. Should have a new mix tomorrow. ;)

Never listened to the first version, but this one sounds cool.

Joey this is good. Heavily Alice in Chains influenced a la the Jar of Flies EP, but your love for that band has been mentioned before I think. Everything sounds really good. Especially like the guitars through the whole thing. Vocals are right on. It's got great dynamics. Song really takes you for a ride. Nice job.:D

Thanx K!
First version was all squeaks......;)

Here's an updated version now, with the acoustic guitars played in a more flowing way with less attack. I think it sounds better now. Gonna be the last mix for this year anyway....

well if its your last mix of the year its nice to end on a high note...in more ways than one..

This was the compromise you were looking for...sounds great Joey..you nailed it my son (cockney accent) flippin magic :)

Damn thing broke my balls till I had it down....
Thanx for listening, Keith! ;)

This last version is a keeper. Sounds great. Much better than version 1 or 2. How did you get rid of the squeaks? Same strings, just played differently?

Technical trickery.....cut and paste ;)
I played the part over and over and took the best parts. The squeaks wouldn't matter if I was playing it live, but a studio version has to sound cleaner IMHO. I'm pretty happy with it now too. Thanx for the comment, GZ!
