got nothing against mix - or anyone else for that matter, just the silly bickering drives me nuts:rolleyes:
 
1st - mixmkr is DEFINITELY an asset to the board'

2nd - VOXVENDOR - you did not recieve 50 critiques on your song..no offense but that's B.S.

3rd - *MOST* of the time mixmkr is right on the money. I know this because he often says the same things about my music that my buddy over here says, and I know my buddy here is an honest man...

4th - mixmkr also knows how to talk to the *Pro's* in a way that I cant....for instance..this thread were on right now....mixmkr was DEAD ON about everything he said about it....Not for nothing, but most of these pros's music really isn't as special as I expect it to be...I know I could do better with 1/2 the gear...and 1/4 of the money used.

IMOP this song for instance...this is kick ass? to who? My Mom would like this song.....I would say my ass was not kicked AT ALL by this song..but it sounded good..The thread starter made this song sound like it was going to be 'kick ass'...it was more like 'kiss ass'

MIXMKR - Do what you do brother....Keep it Real because SO MANY PEOPLE DONT NOWADAYS.............I look forward to your critiques in the future BUT please keep doing EXACTLY what your doing....If sarcasm is how you express yourself, than Go for it....What's the worst that can happen?...you burst someones GIANT ego?

One more thing about this song,

It sounds like a very cheap drum machine and the guitar sounds not even as good as a Pod....This is Pro? 'huh'.......The singer has a good voice but I don't think this is live...and the vocals are out a few times...but the guitar playing is good....

In fact, I have now posted 7 songs in the clinic, and yeah, I got about 50 posts worth of comments.....

I don't want mixmkr to stop with his 'detailed' critiques.... I look forward to his opinions AND I think he always shoots from the hip...which is how it should be... mixmkr sometimes reflects things I'm thinking about peoples music....and he sometimes says what I don't know how to...I think he should be encouraged and NOT discouraged....When I put up a song, I look forward to his opinions and if they didn't come, I would be disappointed....I appreciate ALL opinions and mixmkr's are *usually* the most detailed....which is why I put songs up here in the first place...and besides that........he usually makes me laugh...and not many other people can do that..

Thats what I was getting at in my post....... I also want him to keep all the bluntness and details, in his critiques, and I even went to the extent of saying how much of an asset he is...

I just gave him some advice that the sarcasm and satire he adds into his posts in the form of little remarks, could stand to be lost...

I see what your saying... but "honesty", and "bluntly rude honesty" are 2 very different things.

He can be honest without the sarcastic remarks..

And thats what I was telling him, and he thanked me, which leads me to believe he agreed with me...

Gee sjoko2, as someone in the business, you should have known it would happen. If I want my feelings hurt or insulted the best place to do it would be here by posting music. If I want my opinions minimized as to their value, I post it here. Its really a shame, I quit posting music here because musicians for the most part are very opinionated about what they percieve to be...the only valid opinion. When someone says..rehearsal, well it means things are a rough take, to get better, trying something different, improvisation, and complete and total chaos. Hello...McFly?
Ive listened to lot of posters music, and alot of the time I don't comment because its boils down to personal preference in alot of the cases. My guitar tone may not be what you like, but its what I like. If it really out of tune..well thats different or there is a phase issue. But alot of the critiques I see are too subjective and really are more insulting than helpful.

Here are a couple of hints for listening to postings...

Don't use your PC speakers or studio monitors for listening to
what people post. Burn it to a CD and pop it in your home stereo, there is a good chance it will sound better. Why...go back to the argument on why you don't use home speakers to monitor in the studio.

Make suggestions that might be helpful in making it better, not a restructuring of a metal tune to sound more countryish.

DO not disagree with other people subjective views, your not the only brain on the block!

If your a strong personality, you get what you deserve in flammage! (just kidding)

There are tons of people in the business who do things differently from artist to artist, song to song. Remember..its just an opinion and its not a law, don't try to dictate to people personal preferences...

Sjoko - I though the tune was good -- I wouldn't have guessed it was a rehearsal recording.....

My dad's comment, I understand....I'm not sure I really understand the other (above) comment.

It is sonically nice, for sure... I wish I knew BG vocalists as together as them, however;). They seem exceptionally tight,(almost on the verge of suspecting a buss mix), and the only way I've usually achieved that is cutting and dragging in needed places ...and even sometimes eliminating ending 'T's, and the such on one (or more) of the tracks. How's dat for a performance compliment!?:)

I agree...no dictating, but I think an opinion is what alot of people look for, and the writer/performer can take them as seriously as they see fit. I many times tell people what I'd do if I were the producer/writer...and I don't think that is wrong, because the mp3 is posted here to receive opinions in the first place, isn't it?

Well, mxmkr, it's very relevant. Pros put their stuff up in the clinic, and it's a sound to aim for if you're a homer. Blue Bear's correctly identified this particular mp3 as falling into that category.

A Person can quibble with the arrangement or the simplicity of the song if A Person so wishes, and that's a legitimate matter of taste, but I don't think you can take issue with the sound or the musicianship. They're both excellent.
 
I think there are some really cool moments in this...are you gonna bring it any further ? Kudos on the tense guitar solo chops. I like that main vocal sound, care to describe the vocal signal chain ?

You make it sound like posting their mix is some big favor and we should just be thankful to hear it. Well I have recordings in my CD collection that are far better than anything I've ever heard posted on this bbs. I can use those as icons. If someone has legitimate criticism of any posted mix, then they have the right to express their opinion, whether it's a pro's mix or not.

Now if a pro posts a mix with an explanation of the techniques he or she used, then yes, I'd consider that a big favor. Even then one could still debate the merits of the mix and the techniques. Otherwise, simply posting a mix is no huge favor - no more than anyone else's mix. Hell, I even learn a lot about what not to do from "bad" mixes posted here.

A pro's mix deserves no better or worse treatment than any other on this board. Though you might argue the pro's should be held to a higher standard considering they make a living at it.

I agree with you barefoot, and I think, (including yourself), that we have for the most part being critiquing stuff and addressing mixes. As being guilty myself, sometimes the occasional remark may get inserted, but I never intend to JUST flame a person, unless I feel I am being provoked, and I'll usually feel like standing my ground, unless shown a better way....I'm stubborn that way....which is how I felt earlier with cyan and kelly. I can see how I might have misread cyan's remark, and have changed 180 degrees with my thought towards him.

And dobro...I don't think there has really been a posting so far on this thread that really think that either the sound or musicanship suffer greatly. Infact, I feel most (including myself) have said quite the opposite.

I DO hate to talk about tribble in this thread...but I feel that sometimes, it becomes relevant to say these thoughts, that may not directly be related to the posted mp3, but only indirectly so.

One other thought...that would be interesting to me. When a "pro" posts something, it WOULD be nice to know the equipment used, etc...because if a friggin Neve or whatever is used, and some other top notch equipment, that WOULD make a good benchmark to aim for....especially if we are getting "close" with our home equipment. Additionally, I particularly liked Sonusmans post, because he is considered a "pro", but did NOT use any really expensive stuff..so that made that EXTREMELY interesting to hear what "someone in the know" could do with *budget* equipment. ....kinda like...what would "Roger Nichols" do if he came and tracked/mixed at MY house...how much better would it really be....I'd be besides myself to experience such a thing.

Anyway, now we're getting somewhere. Yeah, I'd like to know what gear he used as well. And who the hell played guitar as well. :D Gee, he's obscure sometimes.

Also, Sjoko - how many tracks did you do simultaneously on this one? You said it's a rehearsal, and to me, that suggests everybody playing at once. How'd you keep each track so clean? Presumably the backup vocals are overdubs, yeah?
