The important stuff first.
My picks are MXL V69M or V6, ADK Vienna or Hamburg, new version of SP C1.
1) If you've only had/heard one of them, keep your opinion to yourself for now.
2) Somehow I've ended up with all dynamics and small condensors. I want something especially suited for rock vocalists and rock ballads, I like a nice 3D sound. I just sold a Soundeluxe U195 cause after a few years it started to seem too sibilant to me and not enough magic to it. I dont want an SSSSSSS mic all the time. THat drives me nuts. If it works well on acoustic guitars or dirty cabs, thats a def plus.
3) I want something that sounds decently intimate, like its in someones throat almost.
4) A colored mic is fine, maybe even preferred. I want thick, but clear and present. At least a LITTLE mojo.
5) MY preamps are Seventh Circle A12 and N72 so there is a little mojo happening in that dept. to help it out.
6) I will also think about an AT 4050 in this mix but I'm not including it in the headline just yet. I dont know why. Whatever, Go with it.

I'll buy it this week and hold you guys responsible if it sucks :)

I've got an SP-C1 and I love it. FYI.

That V69 sure is a pretty mic though. The V6 looks rather nice too. Do they look that good in person? I had a V67 once I didnt seem to care much for (years ago so I cant say why, might even like it now) that looked a lot nicer in pictures than it did in person.
That V69 would look pretty amazing in an enhanced audio mount.

I can't help it ...... out of all my chinese condensers .... the only one I don't like is the V69 .... son of a bitch is way harsh sounding.
Of course I don't have those nice pres so maybe that'll make a difference.

I love how at 2 AM there are 3 responses in like, 2 minutes. That's awesome.

I wouldn't rule out an SM7 (sorry :o ).

Well out of the choices offered the only one I have direct experience with is the ADK Hamburg. The highest end pres I've heard the mic through are a SSL 4000G and a summit pre. Guess what I'm going to reccomend?

just get another sm57 and call it a day.

6 30am.. i wish i was still tracking, but noo, gotta go to 'school'..

Groove tube md1b will gets you much mojo and the illusive warmth quality, ADK nice but a little sparkly, 4050 also rox but light on mojo, the new C1 sounds cool but thats my sluttiness speakin' out, no experience

I know it's not in thee title, but I've got a pair of Oktava MKL-2500s. Good good stuff especially after Mr. Joly got done with one. Makes things sound big without that harsh high end, while being relatively flat, it adds something to the vocals, a very immediate quality and very little silibance.

Of your list, I'd get the V69. Although, I'd really rather have the SP T3. ;)

You just said you didn't want an ssss mic, yet you listed a whole bunch of ssss mics as your potential choices.

I'd have a look at an Audio Technica 4060, AT 4047, Shure KSM44, or a CAD M-9. The M9 is a little bit of an "S" mic, but probably not nearly as much so as your other choices.

I was thinking the same thing.

I have an Sm7, as well as some of the other "best" dynamics (441, 421, 409)

I think, well, I'm almost postive, I'm going to buy a premium-mod Oktava from Joly. I've read enough to think that I should come out pretty well, and he will take it back if I dont like it. Sooo.... I think I may give that a shot. At least I know the mic has seen some personal attention from someone, and he's going to pick me as exceptional one before he starts on it.
More to come.

The C1 is an Ssssss mic. But worse with some singers than others. And if you want a bright, crisp, airy mic you will probably have to learn to deal with a little Sssssss. A de-Sssssser works wonders.
