F#7 vs. Gb7

Hey guys, this is the same chord but, if I wanted to know the notes and right them down would it be Gb, E, Bb, Db or would it be F#, E, A#, C#????
Or does it depend on what your playing? Maybe the practise I'm working on is just trying to confuse me. I mean in this section I'm working on it has a Gb7 and a F#7. both have a Db7 in front on it, and a B7 after. Db7, Gb7, B7...vs. Db7, F#7, B7. Maybe it did confuse me????????

They should be the same chord, both having (in flats) Gb Bb Db E or (in sharps) F# A# C# E. Notes are flatted or sharped based on the nature of the key signature; flat keys have flats and sharp keys have sharps. I think. Bye bye.

hixmix, Well you could be right... Db is C#, Gb is F# and B is Cb, but it's not writen that way on the music sheet. But there is one thing I noticed, and maybe I should have explained a little more. What I am kinda working with is the circle of fifths. C, F, Bb, Ab, Db, (Gb or F#) B, E, A, D, G, C. So, I'm starting to see what there trying to show me I think.

Whether it's Db or C# depends what key you're in. In your circle-of-5ths example, it's Db. You start from no flats; each change adds a flat, until you get to Gb. Gb and F# are special because not only are they the same pitch, but Gb has 6 flats and F# has 6 sharps. Confused? Me too.

That is my understanding. When in Rome...

Key signatures with sharps (#)

1 sharp = G major, the notes that are sharpened are F
2 sharps = D major, the notes that are sharpened are F, C
3 sharps = A major, the notes that are sharpened are F, C, G
4 sharps = E major, the notes that are sharpened are F, C, G, D
5 sharps = B major, the notes that are sharpened are F, C, G, D, A
6 sharps = F# major, the notes that are sharpened are F, C, G, D, A, E
7 sharps = C# major, the notes that are sharpened are F, C, G, D, A, E, B

Key signatures with flats (b)

1 flat = F major, the notes that are flattened are B
2 flats = Bb major, the notes that are flattened are B, E
3 flats = Eb major, the notes that are flattened are B, E, A
4 flats = Ab major, the notes that are flattened are B, E, A, D
5 flats = Db major, the notes that are flattened are B, E, A, D, G
6 flats = Gb major, the notes that are flattened are B, E, A, D, G, C
7 flats = Cb major, the notes that are flattened are B, E, A, D, G, C, F

Gb7 would be spelled:

Gb - Bb - Db - Fb

F#7 would be spelled:

F# - A# - C# - E

They're the same exact chord, just enharmonically spelled.

The chord in question is definitely not a Cb7. That's spelled Cb - Eb - Gb - Bbb. The only common tone that has with the other chord is Gb.

A mnemonic device which I learned as a child has served me well for 40 years:

Flats:
Fat Boys Eat Apple Dumplings Girls Can't.

Sharps:
Go Down And Eat Breakfast For Charlie.

Thanks guys, There's been (some) some good responses here.
AGCurry, Never heard that one :) I see it in the circle.
tdukex, exactly right.... goes with what AGCurry is saying.
famous beagle," The chord in question is definitely not a Cb7." I knew that :D
