HI

I am recording a four piece band, with two vocals every week "live" at church.

Everything is run into a Carvin PA, sending the signal to a Zoom HD16 recorder.

I have only been doing this for a very short time, and have been mixing straight on the recorder. The unit came with Cubase...which I haven't installed or tried yet.

What are the advantages of mixing on my PC?...surely my pc speakers are the worst in the house...and I have already learned that mixing to headphones does not provide a realistic sound...when I go throw the master track in my car or even home stereo

I guess I just don't get what extra versatility there is using my pc....and the idea of using my hard drive/processor/ (which are fairly current)...and being limited to sitting in front of my pc do not appeal to me

I suppose it depends on the software used...the recorder/cubase combo states that I can use my recorder as the actual mixing board, while connected to my pc...

Not sure if any of that was actually a question. I don't have a dedicated room for anything, so everything I do has to be mobile. Does everyone mix on their pc?

Thanks,
CM

For one thing, nobody uses (or nobody should be using) PC speakers to mix on. You need a pair of decent monitors for playback. If you have discrete tracks of your session, mixing after the fact is very cool. Software is software. They all sound about the same. I mix FROM a PC but not with software. My system functions as a 24 channel sound card and I mix through a console.

Are you recording discrete tracks or a two track mix off the board? If you're doing this live are you isolated from the band?

Hi Thanks for asking........

I am recording between 6 and 8 discreet tracks, sent straight out of the pa mixer (before processing there) and I am in the band....so I cannot monitor levels...but have been getting better at guessing (I record our practice and adjust before the actual performance)
