which would be a better buy? im mainly tracking guitars and drums.

The HD280's attenuate 2-4 more db than the Extreme Isolations, are lighter, more comfortable, and sound better, with better bass response. They are backed by a big company with a long history of customer support. Aside from that, Extreme Isolation's ambience is nil. For that video or photo op, I can tell you, you will *not* wow the groupies with those butt-ugly headphones! Admittedly, the Sennheisers cost $20 more. Just cough it up.-Richie

while were on this topic are there any other headphones that are ment for really loud sources? - i was looking at the extreme isolations but i did not know about the Sennheiser HD-280. May go with the Sennheisers now....

Thanks as always,

Nathan

i picked up a pair of the HD280's on ebay for 71 brand new :)

Wow! $71 brand new is a no-brainer. I'm hearing impaired, so I have to crank the headphones a little when tracking. Controlling bleed is essential, and I often have to wear cans for hours. The only thing I've used that beats them are Ultrasone HFI-650, which are just as comfortable, just as light, are just as good at isolating, and sound better. At $250, they ought to. I don't need that kind of sound quality in tracking phones, but they do rock. The Sennheisers get the job done.-Richie
