Extra silence after track in Multitrack mode

I'm using Adobe Audition 5 for Mac, and whenever I create a new multitrack session and insert a file, it automatically adds a bit of silence to the end of the file. This is visually apparent via the timeline above the tracks; it's usually something like 10% extra silence added to the end - no matter how long or short the track.

Thus, upon export, I have to export, re-open the file, cut off the excess, and then save - adding valuable time to my workflow.

Anyone know why this is done, or - just as good - how to get rid of that time? In video NLEs this is called "ripple delete" but in Audition, delete ripple deletes the track, so...

Thanks!
