external USB soundcards--suggestions?

Hello all,
Are these external USB 'soundcards' any good overall? What are a few specific ones that are good for a beginner--I only need one input and my price range is as cheap as possible--maybe $100 or a little more. ANY help is much appreciated.

you might be able to find an egosys ua2 on that budget...though it might be a little more expensive, haven't checked up on the usb stuff lately.
