external phantom power

This may be a dumb question . . . but if I want to use the mixer section of a Tascam 388 with condensor mic, I could use an external phantom power source. My main concern is; do these introduce additional noise or alter the tone in any way? Thanks for your help.

Yes, and they shouldn't affect audio if the supply is of any quality whatsoever. If it introduces noise, then it's a piece of junk!
