External Hard Drive requirements.

I am looking to get an external hard drive. I want to be able to track straight ONTO the external hard drive , not onto the internal first. What qualifications would I need from an external hard drive to be able to use it for tracking.

usb2.0 ?
firewire ?
7200 rpm ?

Is it even possible to track onto your external hard drive without problems?

I couldnt find any threads that answered it exactly. People seem to use their externals for storage , not tracking.

I do what you're looking to do with external drives all the time with no problems. I have a Western Digital (120GB) and a Seagate (300GB). Both have performed very well. I've recorded as many as 13 individual tracks at a time with no hiccups.

-7200 rpm is recommended.

-FireWire is ideal, especially if you're either a) tracking more than 2 tracks at a time, or b) planning to monitor a lot of other tracks while recording.

I cant tell you how much of a relief it is to hear that you do it for tracking. I shall look into a firewire harddrive since I intend to record and monitor with it. That is a breath of fresh air , thank you MadAudio.
