So, I'm planning on building a mock Gibson Grabber (since I flat out refuse to pay 800+ dollars for an originally moderately priced bass) and I want to try and get it as close as possible in terms of measurements and such. Other than that Gibson vintage guitar site, is there anywhere I can find extensive spec info on this bass? I not going to install the sliding pickup (I'm opting for MusicMan style Basslines. I love the airy midrange growl), but I would also like to find the pickguard if at all possible.

OK I'll ask. Why are you building a bass based on one of the crappiest basses ever made by Gibson? I played one for a couple of years and it was awful. Kinda cool looking but awful playing and sounding.

Why do you give a rats ass as to what bass I want?

The school I'm going to is providing the wood/tools/etc., but I'd much rather pay for luthier schooling than an overpriced Grabber. I don't know about you, but I loved the Grabber I played, and that was the ONLY time I've ever seen it in a consignment shop. Plus, I just like the way it looks (which is part of any guitar choice). As annoyingly rhetorical as this is going to sound, the player makes the instrument sound good, and while I'm not strictly a bassist, I know my way around a 4 string. Also, it'll be nice to have a bass around for recording purposes. Does that answer your question?

Besides, I'm not even a staunch Gibson fanatic to care that they were apparently "the worst basses made by Gibson", but god damn do I want that bass...or at least the chance to replicate it with a few minor tweaks.

Easy there now. No offense! I just thought if you were undertaking building a bass, there so many choices out there I found that one rather odd. If you like that look there's some awesome MusicMan basses that are similar. Good luck man.

Why go to the trouble of extensive detail & use a pick up that's no where near original?
Design & make your own instead.
