HI,

I was wondering if I can buy some extension cable for my Delta66. If so, what kind of cable are they and where can I find them?

thanks in advance

Al

You can get one directly from m-audio a 6' extension for $14.99

I'm not sure if this cord is different than other regular computer cables that look the same, if it isn't different. You can probably get that type of cable elsewhere-longer- and cheaper...I'm not sure of the name of the cable though...

extending the cable length isn't the greatest idea with those cards.

that's an analog signal going through there. 8 channels of unbalanced (i believe) audio signal in that tiny little snake. i'm pretty sure that m-audio recommends keeping it at the original 6 foot maximum. i could be wrong though.

oh, and if you're going to extend it, get the proper cable.

like i said, it's analog audio.

there are computer cables with similar pin-outs, but the cable is much thinner and NOT made for audio.

Is it the same pin layout as a printer/parallel cable? If so that is also known as a Dsub or DB25. You can get them from Horizon, ProCo and others. I wouldn't use a regular computer cable and like Bleyrad said try to keep it short because it is unbalanced. You should be good to about 10-15'.

I think I am discovering something new here. Delta series are unbalanced? Does that mean any balanced gear I have is pointless since it's going thru an unbalanced soundcard?

Tex, I tried with a printer cable, it was bigger(wider) than the delta cable. Is there more than one kind of printer cable that you are speaking of?

M-Audio really should have made longer cables as an option, 6' can be a problem if one was to place the PC in a closet or something...

Unlike the Delta44, Delta66, and Delta1010lt, the converters on the Delta1010 are in the breakout box. Hence the connection between the breakout and the card is digital, which is why you can run longer cable lengths.

The cable is your standard straight through DB25 Male / Male. You could get a custom one made up A1A2 using well shielded good guage wire that should give you 15ft easy. Cost around $40 USD.

A1A2, the Delta is actually balanced, so it will accept your balanced gear and treat it as it should (cancelling unwanted noise from long cable length), however it is (i believe) ONLY balanced at the breakoutbox point. The signal it gives to the card from the breakout box becomes unbalanced before it hits the extension cable.

To those complaining that they should have included or support longer cable lengths, I disagree with you there. They are trying to give you the best possible quality. To gain the convenience of a longer cable is to assuredly lose some amount of quality and become prone to all the EMI, RF and AC that's around a computer and your electronics.

Delta cable length

Hey there.....

doesnt apply exactly but I extended the cable length of my delta 1010 with a 25foot db25 cable. m-audio used to have this on their FAQ. anyhoo, standard computer cable (decent quality) is fine since this is what tech told me they use. 25 feet is the max they will recommend though.

email tech support and ask if your 66 can use the same length.

I used the extra length to move the PCs to an isolation room. You can then use longer ps2/video cables (15ft max) or a KVM extender (cat 5 belken) to extend you mouse, monitor and such.

Hope this helps,
spoon

delta1010 has the converters on the breakout box, so it's only digital data going on that cable... you could probably go even longer than 15 feet without problems.

thanks a lot, guys. I will email M-Audio and let them know my situation (should have done that in the begining...)

Thanks!
