Exporting audio from Sonar to Sound Forge

Hey you ou there!

I´m going trough this frustrating issue that´s not to be able to edit my audio in Sound Forge. Or any where...
Sonar shows a beautiful box "Cannot create temporary file".

I´ve switched from W98 to WXP, editing with SF 6.0b, my machine is a Pentium III 550, 256 of RAM, a main 8.4 HD (with plenty of room), a secondary 4.5 HD (idem), and a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 audio card.

I´M GOING NUTS!!!

Any idea?

Do you log on to WinXP with Administrative Rights? Maybe you need that to use WinXP's temp dir... A friend of mine borowed my computer, logged on as himself (created new user, w/o administrative rights), and didn't get to use Win2000s temp.dir. A real pain in the butt when you're trying to use Winzip, for example...
 
I have a very similar rig, but with AMD. I opened MY Computer, c:\ , properties, clicked sharing, allow sharing by all users. I haven`t had any problems.
I export my wav from Sonar first, close it, and then edit in SF after the fact, seems to help my concentration to only have SF open instead of both programs running.
 
But to just use SG under the Tools-menu for soundediting, not mastering, is brilliant! :cool:

That said, Chino, if you are planning to master the track in SF, then you'll be better off with Toki's sollution. Export from Sonar, then open in SF.
 
If you want to export a clip to Sound Forge you must have "Applied Trimming" on it first. Right click on the clip and you'll see it. Then it should be able to export.
 
You don't need to apply trimming, but it does make it easier to edit in SF...
 
Can you see Sound Forge in Tools Menu in SONAR ? Then why you don't use it ? I use WinXP, SONAR and also sound Forge 4.5, and no problem even though I log in as a guest. Do'nt have to export, save, switch the progs, etc. Just click the wave block, click tools, Sound forge, click... it exports the audio automaticaly...
 
Yea, soundforge should be under tools, just click on it and it will export you wave file. Then you can export back.
 
Yawn. Morning all.

I haven't used Sound Forge in months. Could I ask what editing you want to do there that you can't do in Sonar?
 
For me it's not a question what I can do in SF, but how much faster...

SF, Wavelab and perhaphs Cool Edit are designed to edit a mono or a stereo wavefile. Sonar is not, as in you can do it, but Sonar's not optimized for it...

It's just the little things. Example: The scroll-wheel on my mouse just scrolls the page up and down in Sonar. In SF it's zooms in. Much better for editing.

I´ve been off line for a while...

I´ve always used SF for editing in all the Cakewalk versions I remeber it can handle for the simple reason that it´s the fastest, comfortable and effective way to mange audio tracks. It´s really a very powerful tool.

A couple of monthes ago, being used the whole combo in W98 with NO PROBLEMS, I´ve switched to WXP. Had a similar problem, then I thought it could be a matter of processor or something like that. Then I changed my PII 400 for this nice PIII 550.
And the issue was the same.

So, I think it´s kind of aproblem with Sonar and XP.
Weird, really extrange. But that´s what happens.

If you know about a wacky alternative setting or configuration, or any register tweak, or something, please let me know before I kick off my PC after its "Pi-du"...

I don´t want to sound complaining but... I´M GOING MAD!!!
Really, I don´t want to switch back to W98.
If you know about any other case like this or similar please let me know ASAP... I´m burning out...

(I hope this next 2.1 version fix my problem, but I really can´t wait any longer.)
 
Is SF even trying to open? If not, maybe there's something wrong in your registry, under Cakewalk tools menu. Check that, and if there's a problem, I can post this little app that quickly puts ANY program you want in your Sonar Tools menu. I have it on a floppy somewhere.

With any edititing software? I'm sorry to nag, but did you see my first post? Sounds more and more like this is the case...

You see, WinXP (and Win2000 for that matter), locks down the Windows folders (or user-setting-folders) so you won't be able to use the Temp-folder (c:\winnt\temp) if you don't log in to Windows as an administrator or with administrator rights.

If you still can't get it to work, I would say ditch WinXP, and try Win2000. Don't go back to Win98, Sonar run best on XP or 2k....

Moskus, let me see if I get you right:

When I go to check "Cuentas de Usuario" (that would be something like "User Account" or so, I don´t how appears on english version), I can see myself as the Administrator, and there is a greyish Guest button, that is I´m the only one who uses the machine and have no other users allowed.
But the "Administrator rights" thing, is that implicitly featured if I am logged as Administrator or is something I must tweak?

I must tell you that I can´t see the c:\winnt\temp folder...
Am I missing something?

Yes, I´ll follow your advice and if nothing works, I´ll surf into W2000.

I´m eager to hear from you again...

If Windows XP tells you that you have "administrative rights", then everything should work, but obviously it doesen't. :(

Just for the sake of it, try logging in as "Administrator" and don't enter a password. If it then doesen't work, I'm all out of ideas. Try Win 2000, I feel it is as stable as WinXP, but it's easier to use.... IMHO.

And the "Temp"-directory is shurely located under "c:\documents and settings\your user name" or something like that...
 
reasons for exporting...

I use SF a lot from the tools menu when I want to fix some vocal line with Auto-tune´s graphic mode. I don´t think that´s possible in Sonar, or?
And, editing a single track in Sonar feels pretty cumbersome, if you use right click for destructive editing, you only get a preview and can´t change any parameters while listening, or?
That´s some of the things I´ve found with regards to SF, also the quick zooming bit.
