Heey HomeRecording forum!

I'm 18 and I am thinking about starting a studio, and I do have some experience. I have the change to work with someone in the studio who sold over 500.000 records and wants to teach me everything and I has gear worth around 120.000$ so that sound is indeed pretty good of course

but here is my question, I want to record dirty and rock n roll, think about albums like Queens of the stone age, Kyuss, Nirvana, you get the idea, So i need a analog recording table and what else, I have a good knowledge about computers and software that is not really a problem, I work with a lot of bands and play drums for 7 years so I know where to place mics etc. but I mess the step from the mics to the computer how can I get a good sound? analog warm and reall?

thanks!

The "step from the mic to the computer" *IS* recording. That's 95% of the entire process - Capturing the source.

High quality preamps. Not necessarily "tubes"(not by any stretch) -- Not "tape" -- Great mics into great preamps (obviously, a great sounding source in a great room and some great converters aren't going to hurt). You don't need an analog console - although again, a summing mixer, something along the lines of a Neve (what is it, 8816 or something) isn't going to be a bad thing. Great monitoring, a great monitoring space -- Everything adds up.

I'm intrigued why you ask such a question when you have the chance to work with, watch and learn from someone who has sold over 500,000 records and wants to teach you everything. Get in there and learn. Hands on experience will see you good for the future.

Me too. I guess it's the impatience of youth......
