I thought about putting this in the interfaces section but it is really not a question about the interface itself, its mostly about my options for expanding it.
Anyway, here goes:
I have an EMU1616m and while on paper it seems to have a lot of inputs, only 2 of them have preamps, needless to say, I need more (for live recording or even recording a drum set). Anyway I have a number of options lined up and was looking for advice on which is the best one (cost is a factor). The 1616m has an adat in so these are the options i was contemplating.
First of all, I really only NEED an 8 input addition, but I would not say no to more it its posible.
1) Analog mixer + analog to adat converter. I really have not had any experience with the analog to adat converters so I dont know much about this one. Having a mixer is great as it can be used for live performances though.
2)Digital mixer with an adat out, or purchasing an adat module for that mixer. I really dont know what number of digital mixers come with the option to add an adat module. Also i think digital mixers are a little more pricey. On the plus side they come with A LOT of features.
3)Buying only preamps qwith adat out such as the behringer ada8000 or the octopre. This solution is the simplest one, and in the case of the octopre i believe the preamps are quite decent (not so much with behringer but the truth is that im not looking for really high end stuff anyway). The major con of this is that i dont get the features of a mixer (i could go with the digital mixer in my laptop but its a major hassle and for live performances id rather have a hardware mixer.
So these are the options ive contemplated if you have a better one please feel free to enlighten me. Also if its possible id appreciate models of different mixers for my purposes if its not to much trouble.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any advice.
