Hello Everyone, I'm excited as hell. For a couple of years now, I've repeatedly asked here, and other places for details of DOORS, JAMBS, SEALS, THRESHOLDS, LATCHES,
LOCKSETS, HINGES and other goodies for custom building this little gem of the Home Built studio NIGHTMARE.:D

Weeeeell. I have it now. And now I will share with you, what has taken me a couple of years to really see. I can't upload the stuff yet. Tonight I will. I have downloaded a shitload of AUTOCAD profile files, for all of the above. I will convert these to .gif or .jpg for uploading here. If you want a set for Autocad or the other formats, let me know. I just have to organize them first. This is TOO GOOD for those of you JUST starting to design or build, cause this is a BIGGEE. This is the real stuff. Does no good to anyone just to post a link, if you can't put it into your own situation context. OK, gotta run, but I'll be back.

OH BOY!!

fitZ:D  :D

very cool! I have an FTP server if you want to make them public, rather than emailing them to everyone every two days.... might be easier, its open to everyone.

Slow, but it works ;)

Awesome frederic,. I think this bbs needs some sort of detail library, which I wouldn't mind contributing to, since I am a CAD detailer. I have been in contact with a few specialty manufactures, who are willing to let me download their intire cad librarys. This will allow me to punch in parts, into scenarios, such as vocal booths, doors, glass windows, hvac, grills, etc etc. Maybe we can make this bbs a better and more responsive place to the needs of home studio builders. I do not see ANY bbs, other than SAE and Johns, whereby a person can actually see every typical detail and section of studio construction, although I know Steve is working on his own. However, I have one fact that allows me to use existing CAD details. First, they are ALL drawn in Autocad. Second, I'm a detailer. Soooooo, maybe we can get something goiing here. I have to go now, but I'll be back for further DISCUSSION ok? Later.

Sure, we can talk about it later, take your time, no biggie. I have just shy of a terabyte free on my server. And in a couple of months I'm getting a T1 so my server can actually send stuff at a decent speed. Cable only allows 32K out, though I get about 7-8meg incoming, depending on the time of day.

There's a verizon fiber box at the end of the street which I'm seriously thinking of boring a hole in the side, then trenching down three lawns to get to my house :)

ooooo 100mb :)

hehehehehehehehe! You sly dog you.:D Being that it's that close, does that mean that fiber is delivered to residential in your 'hood? And exactly what is T1 frederic? Is it telephone line stuff? My brother in law is a network specialist for the Dept of Reclamation, and he mentions it all the time, but I never really knew what it is.

Ok, bout the detailing stuff. I just got an email from one of the manufacturers. Since I'm getting a business license here pretty quick, I'll be able to purchase small amouts of some of this stuff. That means, once we get all these details worked out, you know, for home studio builders, they can order these things through me maybe. Its an idea anyway. I wouldn't be doing this for profit. Only for the guys here on the bbs. But we'll see how it goes. I'm just now starting to realize what we have been missing here. But tonight, I'm bushed. Worked on my shop all day.
I was going to try and do some quasi details just to illustrate this potential, but it will have to wait. I'm still trying to get to the damn console too. Turkey day ate up my time yesterday. Thought I'd have the whole day, but NUUUUUUUUU. Family comes first on thanksgiving. That and helping with the "honey do's"(you know, "honey do this, honey do that")stuff. :D Well, time to unpack some cables...eck. Later.

Naaah, its just a junction box that provides a fiber service access from downtown where the telephone company is, and north of me, where businesses are. I just happen to be in the middle ;) So in theory, they could deliver me fiber. But I live in a residential zone, they aren't about to do it.

A T1 is a serial line that provides 1.54mb of throughput, all day, all night, dedicated to between two points. First point, my house, second point, internet.

If you're doing a favor for a friend (giving your discount), thats fine, but if you're going to do it ongoing, you'll find that skimming a little off the top to cover your aggrevation and expenses is reasonable. Say, you get a 20% discount. Take 5% is not unreasonable, as it complicates your business taxes and AP/AR tracking as well. And, you're giving a 15% discount which no one would sneeze at.

Just a thought.

Hello everyone, I have spent a week reviewing JUST the door seal hardware CAD files and putting them in a format for uploading to (frederics) server. But just as the attached CAD drawing of one piece of the pie illustrates, it would be difficult for someone to do anything with unless they had Autocad to open it in, and even then, there are so many variations, and many combinations, that I think that without seeing them in the context of actual possible homestudio uses, it would be a waste of time. So, what I propose to do, is draw as many scenarios as I can, and then upload the whole section/details, of a door, HVAC, windows, etc. Then you can view them in their correct use. BUT, since I'm no expert at acoustics, this is an experiment in group say or nay. So I think that I should draw ONE door/jamb/threshold, as I think it relates to a home studio builder. My whole purpose is to allow homestudio builders to see how it CAN be done, with out haveing to spend big bucks on manufacatured assemblys.

Sooo, thats going to take a little time, as I've now gone back to work. But I'll post the first one as soon as possible. Anyway, here is one factory detail to illustrate. There are over 30 seals from one manufacturer alone. This is a door head jamb seal/extrusion assembly to illustrate how it adjusts.
