Hey all,

Well, I have 4 recordings up on Myspace www.myspace.com/micamusic . They were tracked in Sonar using SP C1 and MXL 603's -> ART TPS -> FMR RNC -> M-Audio Delta 66.

Drums are Beta Monkey loops

If you have time, I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Thank you,

Mica

They came out really good,
1)how did you mic the guitar?
2)what kind of a/guitar did you use?

I like the Vanagon song. Real catchy songs :)

I cant think/hear of anything negative about them, i'm only listening through my crappy pc monitors thou.

Good job, keep it up.

That Vanagon song is great. A+ bud!

nice tunes. monsoon afternoon is a little too jack johnson like......not saying i don't like him. good message in the song though.

I've had monsoon afternoon on my hard drive for some time and always considered it a great example of what could be accomplished with home recording on a budget. Keep up the good work.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments:

Mic placement varies - I still haven't found the perfect mic placement, but so far I'm liking one of the 603' and the C1 in a XY placement about 6 inches off the neck. The 603 would be in line with the seventh fret and the C1 is in line with the 9th/10th fret. What you do really depends on the guitar - I play a Morgan Sitka/Rosewood OM and it is has very rich bass. I've tried placing a mic around the bridge, but I just get too much bass and I don't really want to have to EQ for the sake of mic placement.

Thanks again for taking some time to check out the tunes.

Peace - Mica

Mica - Good sound on both the acoustic and vocals!!!!

I'm curious as to how you came up with the vocal effects.(?)

BJW - Good songs as well! (I really dig the content as I'm a Worship leader and Christian worship / Rock writer as well...:) )

. . . . . .Thanks!

Double Tracking

Yeah - I'm always double tracking on the vocals. Probably something I should try to steer away from, but I find it really juices up the vocals. To me the voc's sound thin in the mix if I don't - I should probably play around with gain/compression a little more in that respect.

I like the songs, the playing and the overall sound of everything. But the vocal effects ruin it all for me. Your voice is not bad at all its just the effects that ruin it. Get rid of it or atlest tone it down some.

Double tracking - Ok, commit that to memory!!

Yeah, it's a bit over done for my taste, but I like the spaciousness of if, and would like to learn how to do this (Sorry, I'm just getting into the PC side of recording here - Got a Delta 1010 and Cool edit pro, ...but it's not all hooked up yet.)

What, is it like just recording the same thing twice or just recording it once on a couple of tracks and panning them hard...L/R??? Any effects to do this?

Thanks,
Rick

Double Tracking

Yeah, its literally just singing and recording the same thing twice - two tracks. Its pretty tough to nail perfectly as your placement and breathing have to be bang on in your second track. I'll try my next few recordings without the effect to see what I come up with.

Thanks again for the input.

To thicken up vox you can always clone your vox track onto another track and then shift the second track about 5 -10 cents. You can even experiment with a little eq on the second track.
