Everything's Just Fine (first ever recording)

Couldn't find a bass loop for that chorus, eh?

:D

Hey man... I'm not gonna' lie to you, it's got some problems, but it actually buries my first recording, so I'd say your future is bright.

You need to find a way to get bass tracks, even if you have to fake it by playing the low stuff on your guitar...as this is, the way the bass drops out, it would actually be better to not have any bass at all. It reminds me of a gig I played a few weeks ago at Rockefellers in Houston...this club is about 100 years old; theatre style - and the wiring is about that old...so whenever our lights would all come on during a chorus or something, we'd throw a breaker and all that was being pumped out to the crowd was our monitor mix...lol. It sounded a little "thin" when that happened, and that's how this sounds when the bass drops out. You can get a cheap Squire bass for around $150, I think. It sucks, but it's "low end," lol.

Anyway, I thought the song showed promise - really Clever...liked the first verse a lot. But sonically, it pretty much sucks at this point. You can write, and I think you can sing, too (watch your intonation in the choruses, btw)...and that's more than a lot of people who are sonic geniuses, so keep recording. It'll get bigger.

Good luck,
Chris

chrisharris: Thanks a lot, I appreciate your honesty - and quite frankly it means more to me than simply hearing someone say 'oh, that sounds just great'. I also appreciate your detailed comments and encouragement.

FYI (for anyone just tuning in): I have hacked up and added a bass line for the chorus, and also put a little bit of compression on the song to make it more... umm.. palatable.

:)

Again, thanks.

P.S. Kramer - any luck with the new stream?

hey...

weird song. at first, for some reason, it reminded me of the beatles (for SOME reason)...

and now it sounds like something from marcy's playground or a band like that.

anyway...

i don't know what people were saying about the bass, but i thought it sounded like a pretty bass line, especially the first verse.

catchy tune.

Well. I suppose it beats a lot of first time stuff I've heard. I liked the verse. It reminded me of something from the 80s somehow. The Chorus. To be honest, I really disliked it. It just didn't make me want to listen any more. I'd like to hear your next effort, though. Keep it up.

Won't complain about that.

It was just non-existant in the chorus before, so I slashed up the same track that I used for the verse, and re-sent the file - just so the chorus could contain *something*.

catchy tune.

Thanks for the encouragement!

All I was really hoping for was to not have people say 'That's the worst thing that I have ever heard', so I am going to count this as a minor victory. :)

The Chorus. To be honest, I really disliked it. It just didn't make me want to listen any more.

Was it the horrible vocals, or was it more just that the chorus line/lyrics/meaning wasn't enough to keep you interested in what happened next?

Thanks for taking the time to listen and share your opinion!

Wow. I listened to this three times. I think this is a really good song. Since this is your "first ever recording" I'm going to point out the obvious stuff:

1. Everything is out of tune here.
2. The vocals and guitar performances need to be tighter.
3. I really think the song would benefit from a mild tempo boost.
4. Everyone wants real drums, but this song in particular suffers from the loop. An energetic drum track would help enormously, as would some backing vocals in the chorus.

I wold love to hear you work this track some more. It has potential -- if a band like Simple Plan were to record it tomorrow, I think it would make radio.

Thanks! Three times? I'm actually kinda stunned! :)

I love getting pointed suggestions and particulars like this. I am really thinking that it's comments like these that will help me learn to work with something and take it to a different level. Someday, I want to be something more than a guy with a microphone plugged into their computer who can't sing with their ears covered. :)

I'm flattered that you hear that. Simple Plan is certainly one of my favorite contemporary bands. I guess it sorta shows.
